| Mi Youren was a literary official of the Song Dynasty who experienced the "Troubles of Jingkang" and was also an important literati landscape painter,another representative of the "Southern School" of landscape painting after Dong Yuan and Ju Ran.As one of the founders of "Mi’s Cloudy Mountains",Mi Youren advocates naivety and freedom,and his painting style is highly recognizable.Together with his father,he created "Mi’s Yunshan",which is unique in the entire history of landscape painting.Studying Mi Youren’s masterpiece "The Wonderful Landscape of Xiaoxiang" we can understand his overall brush and ink language and painting style,and see the smallest details.Mi Youren’s picture "The Wonderful Landscape of Xiaoxiang" is marked by his personal typical symbolic language.The purpose of selecting this work for analysis is to conduct an in-depth study of Mi Youren’s brush and ink language,and then to apply it to creative work in a rational manner.The essay is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1 briefly discusses Mi Youren’s painting ideology in the context of the times in which he lived,as well as an exploration of the background of the creation of "The Wonderful Landscape of Xiaoxiang.The second chapter analyzes in detail the picture characteristics of the painting from the language of brush and ink,the imagery of the picture,and the mood of the picture.Chapter 3 briefly describes the transmission and development of Mi Youren’s brush and ink language in later generations in the context of the works of Yuan,Ming and modern painters.Chapter 4 deals with two different aspects of Mi Youren’s influence on my painting.The first section discusses how Mi Youren’s attitude of playing with ink and brush and his innovative way of changing the past and seeking new ideas have enlightened my mind.The last section is based on the research of the previous chapters,and elaborates how he applies Mi Youren’s expressions of using water to move ink and using calligraphy into painting to his own creation,with the intention of solving the problems encountered in the specific creative practice,and at the same time providing some theoretical basis for the combination of the creation of works and tradition. |
