A Study On The Agricultural Vocabulary In Bamboo Slips Of Qin-Dynasty

Agriculture is the pillar industry of ancient China and the economic foundation of feudal society.China has a brilliant and glorious ancient agricultural civilization,so the study of agricultural vocabulary has important value.The Qin dynasty is the key to linking the Chinese languages of the pre-Qin and Han dynasties,but not much of the Qin language material has been handed down.However,the language materials passed down from the Qin dynasty are rare.Since the 20 th century,a large number of unearthed documents have provided "living materials" for language research.This article focuses on the agricultural vocabulary in 9 batches of Qin slips,including Shuihudi Qin slips,Haojiaping wooden slips,Fangmatan Qin slips,Yueshan wooden slips,Longgang Qin slips,Wangjiatai Qin slips,Zhoujiatai Qin slips,Liye Qin slips,and Yuelu Qin slips.This paper is a systematic and thematic study using a combination of quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis,as well as a combination of excavated and transmitted documents.The text is divided into four parts.Chapter 1 Introduction This part introduces the value and significance of the topic selection;To sort out the current situation of research materials,language materials,handed down agricultural books,agricultural dictionaries based on linguistic perspective,and agricultural related research of Qin bamboo slips;This part also Introduces the research ideas,methods,and innovations of the paper.Chapter 2 Examples of Agricultural Vocabulary Classification in Qin Bamboo Slips 501 agricultural words in Qin Bamboo Slips are divided into seven categories based on their meanings.There are 226 agriculturally biological words,including food crops,economic crops,as well as birds and animals.30 words related to farmland management,including words related to farmland name,land system,and farmland identification.61 words related to agricultural production behavior,including farming-related aspects,fishing and hunting behavior,and other behavior words.80 agricultural production tool words,including warehousing,transportation,agricultural tools,cooking utensils,textile tools,and other tool words.22 agricultural by-product terms,including food and other agricultural by-product terms.19 terms-related official personnel.63 other agriculture-related words,including agricultural quantifiers,meteorological and seasonal words for sowing,agricultural pests and control words,crop and livestock growth words,as well as animal and plant growth-parts words.In this chapter,the representative words in each category of agricultural words are analyzed with examples and the frequency of occurrence is counted.Chapter 3 Structure and Characteristics of Agricultural Words in Qin Bamboo Slips From a structural perspective,the number of monosyllabic words in agricultural words in Qin Bamboo Slips still dominates,with 267 words,accounting for 53% of the total number of agricultural words;Monosyllabic words are mainly nouns,accounting for 75.66% of the monosyllabic words;There are also instances of mixing category and inflexible word forms in monosyllabic words.234 polyphonic words,which accounts for 47% of the whole words,indicat that there has been a considerable amount of development in agricultural related polyphonic words.The structural types of polyphonic words are mainly partial formal compound words,accounting for 72.65% of the total number of agricultural polyphonic words,followed by combined and dominant polyphonic words;Multi syllable agricultural words have appeared in a small number;Some polysyllabic words have indefinite forms.From the perspective of characteristics,the agricultural words in Qin bamboo slips are highly systematic,often using a combination of monosyllabic and disyllabic words,and there are phenomena of allotropes and “the same thing with different titles” in the vocabulary.The fourth chapter is the value of agricultural words in Qin bamboo slips in historical lexicology.The documentary evidence,accuracy of interpretation and richness of words in large Chinese dictionaries are extremely important.This chapter takes the Great Chinese Dictionary as a reference to explore the value of agricultural words in Qin bamboo slips in historical lexicology.Among the agricultural words in the Qin Slips,70 can be supplemented with new words,16 can be added to the meaning of words,12 can be used to fill in the missing examples in dictionaries,and 38 can be regarded as a proof for the earlier debut of those words.From a large number of materials listed in this chapter,we can see that the agricultural vocabulary of Qin bamboo slips and slips is of great significance both for the study of Chinese historical lexicology and for the compilation of Chinese dictionaries.In appendix a summary table is made to categorizes and summarizes all agricultural vocabularies in the Qin bamboo slips,and creates a summary table of agricultural vocabulary in the Qin bamboo slips for intuitive display.
