Albert Camus is a famous writer and thinker in modern France. The academic circle generally calls his philosophy "absurd philosophy".Camus’ s philosophy of absurdity focuses not only on the absurd world, but also on the people who are in it.He tries to find the hope of life in the absurd world, and to help modern people to better deal with the spiritual crisis, with a strong humanitarian color. This idea of absurd philosophy is richly displayed in his novella The Outsider.By describing the absurd reality experienced by the protagonist Merso and his rebellious attitude,The Outsiders inspires modern people to face up to absurdity and resist the absurdity,so as to achieve self-consistency and freedom in the absurd world. This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly discusses the reasons and implications of Camus’ s absurd philosophy. In the part of causes,it first introduces Camus’ s life, and then analyzes the influencing factors of the formation of his absurd philosophy from three parts: social reality, philosophical origin, and literary influence. In the part of the philosophical implication, the two major themes of Camus’ s absurd philosophy,"absurdity" and "rebellion",are discussed. There lies a logic between them.First comes the absurd nature of the relationship with the world, and then the rebellious attitude to the absurd world. The second chapter mainly discusses the theme of absurdity in the novella,The Outsider. From the three perspectives of the relationship between man and society, man and others, and man and self,we analyze the sense of loneliness and powerlessness in social activities, the sense of alienation in the process of communication with mother, girlfriend and friends, and the sense of low value in the dialogue with self-self.The third chapter mainly discusses Merso’s resistance against the absurd world in the novella "The Outsider".In the face of the absurd world,Merso chose to be the "the outsider" in the absurd world, took an uncooperative attitude towards the existing social order and coldly rejected the identity role established in society. His rebellious attitude reflects his choice and defense of the freedom of human existence. If he cannot maintain the natural state of man,he will choose to die.To sum up,this paper analyzes the theme of absurdity and the rebellious attitude in Camus’ s novella The Outsider, explains the hope and care brought by his absurd philosophy, and thus moves to the world of freedom and sunshine.
