| With the comprehensive deepening of China’s higher education reform,the new college entrance examination has become an important part of educational reform.In the new college entrance examination plan,the proportion of English exam has increased significantly,and the listening part has significantly increased.Therefore,researching the current situation of high school English listening teaching is particularly important for promoting the implementation of the new college entrance examination and improving students’ English ability.The five abilities of listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing are inseparable,but in actual teaching,the teaching of listening skills has not received enough attention due to the influence of exam-oriented education,and has not been included in the national unified college entrance examination.With the reform of the examination system and the transformation of quality education,English as a language communication and listening and speaking tool has become more important.This thesis investigates the current status of high school English listening teaching under the background of the new college entrance examination,explores the existing problems in high school English listening teaching through metacognitive strategies,cognitive strategies,communicative/emotional strategies,and schema theory,and proposes corresponding improvement strategies.The research instruments used in this thesis are questionnaires and interviews,and 202 students and 48 teachers from Mudanjiang No.2 High School were selected as study subjects.The study focuses on the following questions: 1.What is the current situation of high school English listening teaching under the background of the new college entrance examination? 2.What are the reasons for inappropriate behaviors in listening teaching under the background of the new college entrance examination? 3.How to overcome these inappropriate behaviors in English listening teaching under the background of the new college entrance examination reform? This study first conducted a questionnaire survey of 202 students and 48 teachers,and the results were analyzed using SPSS 26.0.In order to further understand teachers’ views on the current situation of listening teaching,the author conducted interviews with 13 teachers.Through the investigation and research,the author found that there are several problems in high school English listening teaching: for the students: students do not develop a serious learning attitude and are not interested in listening;lack of relevant background and cultural knowledge;and lack of listening strategies.For the teachers:teachers do not fully understand the importance of listening teaching;single teaching mode;lack of guidance on listening strategies;and improper selection of listening materials.Based on the above analysis,this study proposes some suggestions for English listening teaching in senior high schools: enhancing the comprehension of listening teaching;innovating instructional models to increase students’ listening engagement;directing listening learning strategies to cultivate students’ proficiency in listening habits;focusing on the selection of listening materials and the use of new teaching methods. |
