Research on the way of hair generation in 3D digital restoration of ancient animalsThe restoration of ancient animals has always been an important part of paleontology research.The restoration of ancient animals can visually display the research results of ancient animal resources by painters,which has high aesthetic value and popular science value.With the advent of the digital age,the development of 3D digital technology has provided new technologies and created new conditions for the restoration of ancient animal resources.Different from the flat two-dimensional drawing of traditional restoration,the three-dimensional digital restoration can make the ancient animals more realistic and comprehensively reproduced in front of the public,make a variety of forms of expression possible,and better meet the urgent need of current museum exhibition as well as cultural and creative development.The 3D digital restoration of ancient animals involves many academic categories such as animal archaeology,animal anatomy,animal ecology,and digital technology.Among them,the 3D digital restoration of hair is of great significance to reflect the modeling of ancient animals.However,due to the large quantity and complex characteristics of hair,the calculation amount of hair restoration is huge,which has become the most difficult step in the field of 3D digital technology.At the same time,in the process of restoration of ancient animals,only fossils are used as scientific resource for bones and deep muscles.Except for some ancient animals that retain skin imprint fossils,it is difficult to preserve hair tissue,which is a blind spot in restoration work.Therefore,the restoration of hair in the three-dimensional digital restoration of ancient animals is a process of reconstruction and generation,in which "generation" includes three levels of scientific research,artistic expression and technical realization.This paper takes the generation method of hair in the restoration of ancient animals as the research object.The way of hair generation in the three-dimensional restoration of ancient animals is explored considering the lack of hair restoration basis,mature technical methods for restoration methods,and artistry of restoration results,and comprehensively applying the zoology,archaeology and art knowledge.First,this paper summarizes the commonality of animal hair growth with the support of zoological,archaeological knowledge and digital technology.The evolutionary reverse reasoning and animal taxonomy methods are used to analyze the hair growth laws and hair characteristics of ancient animals,and to reason about the general principle of ancient animal hair restoration.Then,according to the growth law and characteristics of ancient animal hair,the artistic language expression method of ancient animal hair restoration is summarized.Finally,with Maya,Mudbox,Shave,and Photoshop as the basic technology platform,the integrated application method of digital restoration hair technology is explored and optimizated to complete the three-dimensional restoration of ancient animal hair.This paper uses scientific demonstration and reasoning,artistic expression language and digital technology to study the way of hair generation in ancient animal restoration.Based on modern animals and similar species,the hair growth laws and characteristics of ancient animals are reversely reasoned,the artistic language expression method of hair in the three-dimensional restoration of ancient animals is proposed,and a set of general templates for digital restoration of ancient animal hair is summarized.Thus,in the practice of digital restoration of ancient animals,the purpose of reducing the difficulty of restoration technology,simplifying the process of restoration technology and improving artistic appreciation is achieved.
