The sketch technique comes from the West and the line drawing technique is originated in China.Sketch is a way of expression of Western painting,as well as the basic skill of plastic arts.Line drawing is not only a way of Chinese painting,but also the basic skill of all Chinese painting.They are literally similar but have different meanings.In the 20 th century,thoughts in literature and art is characterized by the spread of Western learning to the East;This feature has gradually dissipated till now,which is due to that the responsibility of cultural revival urges people to examine the essential differences between China and the West,and think about the essence of traditional culture When China enters a new era.In fact,throughout the 20 th century,countless scholars have been asking these questions and began to reflect consciously or unconsciously Zhong zaiben is one of them.Mr.Zhong is the first batch of art students in modern art education of New China.His art career had traced social changes in different times,and now he is an old man.In his early years,he systematically learned Western painting,and he had been engaged in sketch teaching in his main mater for a long time after graduated;In his middle and later years,he was obsessed with studying poetry and ancient characters.In his art career,the technique of his artistic creation is transformed from sketch to line drawing,followed by the transformation of artistic thought his artistic changed from outside to inside,as well as from shallow to deep.As artists and educators,this is a rare large-scale artistic transformation,which deeply reflects the changes of Chinese art thoughts in the 20 th.The first two chapters of this paper combed the process of Mr.Zhong’s technical transformation from sketch to line drawing.Mr.Zhong entered the art college in his youth in 1949,and he was closely linked with social changes and cultural trends.The environment of emphasizing the creation of social realism has a profound impact on his artistic thought all his life.His study of painting started at a time when Chinese painting was in the second crisis,the Chischakov sketch education system of the Soviet Union was introduced into China;And at that time,Mr.Zhong received strict sketch training in the art college and Identified with this system.Times after graduation is an important turning point in Mr.Zhong artistic career.The teaching task made sketch the focus of his work at that stage,but soon he began to look back on the excellent Chinese painting tradition.The traditional art education he received in his early years began to ferment potentially;And he found the root of Chinese culture in line drawing teaching and creation,and then is skills began to change from sketch to line drawing.The latter two chapters explored the performance and reasons of Mr.Zhong’s artistic thought transformation.When his teaching and creation entered a new period,His research turned from painting to poetry,from technique to theory.He applied the traditional aesthetic methods and standards of poetry to the field of painting and the study of ancient characters.Especially,He wrote 5000 poems,which showed his love for traditional culture,as well as amazing efforts and great perseverance.His poetry also contains some realistic poetry,which is a unique theme in his poetry,and truly recites his purpose and interests.It is not easy for a highly personalized artist to make a 180 degree turn,no more for the deep transformation of artistic thought from western learning to Chinese traditional learning.Therefore,this paper studied Mr.Zhong’s artistic road,trying to pry into the evolu tion of his artistic spirit,and outline the artistic practice and mental process of Chinese intellectuals in the 20 th century by combing and analyzing Zhong’s works and artistic thoughts in various stages.It is not difficult to find that the evolution of his artistic spirit is very consistent with the track of Chinese cultural development in the20 th century.The culture environment changed the overall Westernization in those days to cultural self-confidence nowadays,it can be described as earth shaking.However,it’s noteworthy that he walked at the forefront of the times early,which is really rare.When most people were still obsessed with pursuing the Western path and despise the splendid traditional cultural spirit,he had long been in the vast essence of tradition.
