Smart teaching is an important application area of smart education,a product of the integration of information technology and education reform in the context of the big data era.Teacher efficacy is the perceptions and beliefs of teachers about the successful completion of their teaching activities and the successful achievement of their teaching goals.The teacher efficacy in smart teaching environment directly affects the breadth of ubiquitous teaching,the depth of accurate teaching,the height of teaching analysis and the implementation of personalized teaching for students,which also directly affects the teaching effect.Therefore,based on the new teaching environment of smart teaching,it is very necessary and meaningful to study the college English teacher efficacy.This study responds to the context of the times and aims to investigate the current situation of college English teacher efficacy and the relationship between teacher efficacy and teaching performance in smart teaching environment,and divides the study into six dimensions: smart teaching strategies,smart teaching organization,smart learning supervision,smart teaching evaluation,smart teaching design,and smart teaching implementation.Three research methods,questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview,are conducted with the aim of answering the following three questions:(1)What is the overall level of college English teacher efficacy in smart teaching environment?(2)What are the factors that have an impact on college English teacher efficacy in smart teaching environment?(3)How does college English teacher efficacy affect teaching performance in smart teaching environment?The subjects of this study are 112 college English teachers from four different types of higher education institutions in Shenyang.This study consists of three stages: the first stage is a questionnaire survey to investigate the overall level of college English teacher efficacy in the smart teaching environment and the factors that influence college English teacher efficacy;the second stage is classroom observation to investigate the influence of college English teacher efficacy on their teaching performance in the smart teaching environment;the third stage is an interview to understand the real thoughts of college English teachers and students in the smart teaching environment and to support the first two stages of inquiry.This study draws the following conclusions:(1)College English teacher efficacy in smart teaching environment is generally at a moderate to high level;teacher-student interaction in smart teaching environment has a great impact on teacher efficacy.(2)In smart teaching environment,the most influential factors on teacher efficacy are type of colleges and length of teaching;professional title and academic degree have some influence on teacher efficacy.(3)In smart teaching environment,college English teacher efficacy is prominently influenced by smart teaching design and smart teaching evaluation,which has an impact on teaching performance.
