Throughout the study of Chinese dialects,it is generally carried out from the perspective of traditional dialectology, that is,the comparison of specific linguistic features related to pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. However, there are not many investigation cases of Chinese dialects based on the perceptual judgment of non-linguists.Perceptual dialectology is a statistical study that takes the perception of non-linguists as an objective existence, aiming to investigate the perception and attitude of non-linguists towards the language variations in the surrounding areas, thus broadening the research object of traditional dialectology, and can be compared with the results of traditional dialectology to find the correlation between the two results. At the same time, the use of nonlinguistic factors such as gender, age, education and so on reflected in the spatial perception of dialect of subjects from different social backgrounds to reflect the differences in dialect perception has sociolinguistic significance. This paper takes the dialects along the Huai’an and Yangzhou Canal as the research object, carries out a survey and study of perceptual dialectology, and explores the differences in the spatial perception of local dialects,as well as the impact of different social factors on the perception results, and explores whether the perception of dialect differences in these areas is related to the canal, and what the relationship is.The full paper mainly includes the following parts:Chapter 1: Introduction. It mainly includes three parts: briefly introduce the general situation of Huai’an City and Yangzhou City, explain the research background and significance, research content and methods of this paper.Chapter 2: Relevant research on perceptual dialectology.First of all,it gives a basic description of perceptual dialectology, and then introduces the relevant research of perceptual dialectology at home and abroad. Finally, this paper describes the research methods and processes of perceptual dialectology, including survey preparation, survey steps and data processing, introduces the selection of survey site, subjects and survey methods,as well as the data processing and calculation analysis methods after the survey.Chapter 3: Calculation and analysis of perception survey. The results of the perception survey are statistically analyzed, including two groups of data,namely,hand-drawn map and dialect difference rating method.Through SPSS processing data and drawing charts, the results of the two methods are comprehensively described and analyzed, and the internal consistency of dialect perception is attempted to be obtained. In addition, the paper explores whether there is a trend or regularity of geographical change in the dialect features of the dialects along the canal, and compares it with the classification of the perception survey data analysis,to analyze whether there are similarities and differences between the spatial perception of the dialects of the respondents along the canal and the changes of the dialect features, and what the influence of the canal is.Chapter 4: Multidimensional scaling analysis and cluster analysis of perceived distance.SPSS and R languages are used to multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis of the perceptual distance, and the distribution pattern of the perceived results of the dialects in the investigated area is explored according to the perceptual distance. The calculated results of the perceptual distance are visualized for further comparison and analysis.Chapter 5: The influencing factors of dialect difference perception.Starting from the three aspects of interviewees’ gender, age and education level, the difference degree of interviewees’ perception of dialects in each category is calculated, and the results are compared and analyzed to explore how social factors influence the perceptual differences between Huai’an and Yangzhou dialects along the canal.Chapter 6: Conclusion. This paper summarizes the research of this paper, summarizes the main points of this paper, and analyzes the shortcomings of this paper and further prospects.
