| The materials chosen as examples for this report came from the author ’s translation practice for the AI in Education Forum of Shanghai 2021 World Artificial Intelligence Conference.The task involved subtitle translation for six videos of relatively independent lecture with the unified theme of "Artificial Intelligence+Education",which were presented by experts who focus on the frontier research of AI.The translated text has been presented to the entrusting party and videos with subtitles attached has been played live at the AI in Education Forum.The translation of subtitles characterizes specific restrictions on format and length to ensure a comfortable reading experience for video viewers.Meanwhile,the language of academic lectures ought to be translated with a higher level of accuracy and rigorousness.The conflict of requirements from both sides constitutes difficulty in the translation practice,and translators are to compromise to a certain extent in accordance to priorities of translation purposes.As a purpose-oriented translation theory,the Sknpos Theory emphasizes achieving equivalence of text functions when translation purposes assured,which parallels the requirements of this task.This report consists of five chapters:The first chapter introduces topic selection,task background and the significance of the research;the second chapter expounds the development and the core viewpoints of Skopos Theory,and analyzes the rationality of applying it to the task;the third chapter details the author’s translation experience,the process of pre-translation preparation and post-translation editing;the fourth chapter uses case analysis to classify a series of problems encountered in translation,and summarizes adaptable translation strategies;the fifth chapter presents an overall summary of the author’s achievements and shortcomings in the translation task. |
