| This report is based on the C-E translation of the 3rd Chapter of Research on the Development Pattern of Low-Carbon Economy in China in the Context of the“Belt and Road Initiative”,a book attempts to explore a new model of low-carbon economy.Focusing on economics, the text is typically informative, characterized by rich official data, terminology, diagrams and arguments, and long sentences, which made the translation challenging. The translator, therefore, did lots of preparations:reading parallel texts, consulting official documents and studying translation theory.Since the core concept of Functional Equivalence Theory(FET)is functional equivalence or dynamic equivalence, which emphasizes the consistency of the reading response of both the target and source readers,it is reasonable and feasible for the translator to adopt FET to guide the translation after considering the features and function of the source text.In the body part, the report presents a detailed analysis of the translation technique at three levels.Techniques such as addition, omission and conversion from lexical level, and reconstruction, division, combination and shift from syntactic level are expounded and analyzed. At the textual level, emphasis and discussion are laid on coherence and cohesion between sentences and paragraphs through logic reorganization and abbreviation rearrangement. It is concluded that the translation techniques have helped a smooth and faithful translation, ensuring that the target readers have the same reading experience as the source language readers. |
