| Married life is an important part of Roman social culture.This paper takes married life in the late Roman Empire as the research object.This paper discusses the role of religious culture,law,political system and other factors in married life under the social environment of the Empire,examines the general situation of Roman married life,and explores the main changes of Roman marital culture in the society of the late Roman Empire.This paper is divided into three main chapters.The first chapter will analyze the relationship between Roman married life and the marriage concept of the new religious ideology system under the development of Christianity in the late Roman Empire.As a value system different from the secular view of marriage,the Christian view of marriage emerged in social life along with the spread of Christian culture.The fathers were extremely concerned about the married life under the framework of the secular order,kept arguing about the topic of marriage within the Church,and summarized the ideal conception of marriage,including the sexual loyalty between couples and the indissolubility of marriage.And received certain attention from the believers.However,under the role of Roman traditional values,the secular marriage life still mainly followed the social culture inherited from generation to generation.The moral restrictions imposed by the Church on marriage were difficult to be recognized and practiced by the Romans,which forced the Church to take the initiative to accept the Roman marriage culture under the missionary needs,which reflected the strong vitality of the Roman secular marriage concept.The second chapter starts with the development of marriage law in the late Roman Empire,analyzes the factors leading lawmakers to make laws,and then probes into the relationship between marriage law and secular marriage life.With the promotion of the emperor’s power to control Roman social life,the link of marriage also attracted the attention of the imperial legislators.On the basis of the Classical Roman law,the legal system covering all links of marriage life was revised successively,and the legal content was further adjusted in the running in with the social concept of marriage.In the marriage laws of this period,women’s marital property rights and personal rights were improved to some extent,But in terms of legal content framed by patriarchal morality,such as divorce or remarriage,women are still subject to more restrictions than men in married life.The third chapter elaborates the specific features of marriage life in the late Roman Empire society.The nuclear family model with marriage as the link played an increasingly important role in the imperial society,so that the Roman law also formulated the property inheritance law conducive to the stability of the marriage relationship.As society changed,Romans were no longer limited to class in choosing marriage partner,but took personal ability into account.The process of marriage,married life and a series of elements of marriage life have produced some changes. |
