An Analysis Of The Music Characteristics And Playing Techniques Of Bamboo Flute Music Piece "Xia Fang Yuan"

Early in the 1990 s,composer Zhou Yuguo and bamboo flutist Sun Yongzhi created the piece“Xia Fang Yuan” for bamboo flute and chinese orchestra.The piece is made up of some of the tones from the Xi’an drum music brand “Xia Fang Yuan”with the same name,and it is a complex trilogy that draws lessons from western musical concepts in structure.The core is filled with traditional Chinese tunes.The work combines the representative playing styles in the bamboo flute music of the North and South schools,and uses the bass bamboo flute to express the northern style music.It was created about 30 years ago,but just a handful of bamboo flute players have performed it and even fewer have studied it.In order to present the overall music characteristics of the music and offer some guidance and illumination for the later bamboo flute playing and creation,this paper uses “Xia Fang Yuan” as the research object and analyzes the musical structure and playing techniques of this work from the player’s point of view,combined with field interviews and playing practice.
