The meaning of life is the theme throughout the course of life.College is an important stage for the development of individual body, mind and ability. It is a key issue for college students to pursue the meaning of life and realize the value of life.In recent years, the outbreak and spread of the novel coronavirus epidemic has greatly affected the study and life of contemporary college students, and many students have the problem of lack of learning motivation. In particular, the capricious isolation life makes college students feel the loneliness of being far away from other people, the uncertainty of the epidemic, and the health concerns of themselves and those around them in the closed space. In the context of the sudden social event of COVID-19,this study explores the relationship between the sense of meaning of life and learning motivation, explores the changes of learning motivation of students with different levels of sense of meaning of life after being affected by COVID-19 and the specific process of change, explores more adjustment strategies, and provides theoretical support for improving the sense of meaning of life and learning motivation of college students in the post-COVID-19 era. This study consists of the following two parts:The first part was that 611 college students were investigated by means of meaning of Life Scale(MLQ),Positive Psychological Capital Scale(PPQ)and College students Learning Motivation Scale(AMS-C)to explore the relationship between their sense of life meaning and learning motivation, the mediating role of psychological capital and whether they had experienced the moderating effect of isolation under the background of COVID-19.The second part explored the specific relationship between the sense of meaning of life and learning motivation under the background of COVID-19.Based on the results of study 1,8 students from the high sense of meaning of life group(top 27%)and 8 students from the low sense of meaning of life group(bottom 27%)are selected for one-to-one in-depth interviews to learn how they perceive, understand and cope with COVID-19.Learn the changes of motivation before and after the epidemic and the specific change process to explore more adjustment strategies.Among the findings:(1)There is a significant positive correlation between the sense of meaning of life and total learning motivation, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation, while there is no correlation between the sense of meaning of life and non-motivation.(2)Psychological capital plays an intermediary role in the relationship between the sense of life meaning and learning motivation.(3)Experience of isolation has a moderating effect on the relationship between psychological capital and learning motivation.Compared with students who had not experienced isolation, psychological capital had less predictive effect on learning motivation.(4)Students with high and low sense of life significance had different changes in the content and intensity of learning motivation affected by the epidemic;Students with high sense of life meaning were relatively positive about the epidemic, while students with low sense of life meaning were relatively negative.College students can adjust their learning motivation by resetting their goals, changing their thinking, changing their actions, and relaxing reasonably. The results of this study suggest that we should pay more attention to improving college students’ sense of life meaning in the post-epidemic era, help them master positive psychological capital and corresponding adjustment strategies, make their learning full of motivation, and better cope with uncertain events in later life.
