In view of the relatively slow development of psychology at home and intensifying international psychological communication nowadays,the translation of psychological text appears urgent and crucial.This report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of The Science of Stuck:Breaking Through Inertia to Find Your Path Forward written by licensed psychotherapist,educator,and trauma expert Britt Frank.Under the guidance of Chesterman’s Translation Norm Theory,this report aims to examine the translation of psychological text from the perspective of syntactic,semantic and pragmatic level.For the syntactic level of the translation difficulties,the author mainly adopted literal translation,sentence structure change and transposition to maintain the exotic beauty of source text,meanwhile,to enhance the readability and fluency of the translation;as for the semantic level,the author employed hyponymy,distribution change and abstraction change to cater to the ways of expression of target readers;as for the pragmatic level,the author utilized explicitness change,visibility change and cultural filtering to supplement implication and further information to strengthen textual coherence and logicality.Through this precious translation practice,the author concludes that Chesterman’s Translation Norm Theory possesses its feasibility of guiding the translation of psychological text in not only the contribution to the standardization of English-Chinese psychological text translation,but also supplementing the background information of the source text to facilitate the cultural communication and to meet the readers’ expectation.Additionally,this translation practice enables the psychological text translation to shift the emphasis from the traditional translation framework to a broader one,offering a brand new perspective for relevant translation practice in the future.
