| In the current era of visual culture,in order to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the group with audiovisual impairments,a new film practice has emerged--Free-Barrier Movies. This paper focuses on the Free-Barrier Movies for the visually impaired, which is characterized by replacing visual narrative with sound narrative and trying to preserve the movie-watching experience. This paper uses the methods of participatory observation,in-depth interview and text analysis to explore the soundscape construction and the social impact of the Free-Barrier Movies from the following dimensions: First,it summarizes the sound narrative features of the Free-Barrier Movies from the textual level.Secondly, the cognitive logic of visually impaired people to Free-Barrier Movies should be understood from the perspective of reception.Thirdly,it analyzes the influence of the Free-Barrier Movies on the life course of the visually impaired from the social and cultural level.Fourth,it examines the communicability of the Free-Barrier Movies in the Mainland of China from a critical perspective, and discusses how to construct a communicative communication system. Finally,it makes a summary of the above content, proposes some suggestions on how to improve the Free-Barrier Movies, and reflects on the shortcomings of the research and the direction of expansion. It is naturally difficult for the Free-Barrier Movies to completely restore the original visual images and the same experience brought by the source movies.Through the selection and description of details, the Free-Barrier Movies retain the integrity of the overall narrative structure, and abandon detailed description of some character features, scene features and the used shots that have little to do with plot advancement.Re-creation is reflected in the unavoidable subjectivity and personalized language expression in the writing and narration of oral volunteers, and the imagination of words and sounds that are different from visual images. The Free-Barrier Movies use concepts familiar to the visually impaired to be compared to awaken their systems of experience so that they can understand movie stories.Rich details can construct images that create unique soundscapes and visual imagery in their minds. There is a process of comprehension, memory and impression deepening in the cognition of movies by them.Visually impaired people’s understanding of movies is the same as people’s reading, there is a three-level reading mode, their different expectations of movies make them in different reading levels. The significance of the Free-Barrier Movies goes far beyond allowing visually impaired people to understand movie stories. It can even be integrated into the life structure of them and change their life course from different dimensions. From spreading new knowledge and shaping new ideas,to creating emotional experience and building identity,to expanding their living space and social structure, and even changing their life trajectory, the Free-Barrier Movies contents and related activities have created more possibilities for the life of the visually impaired. The meaning of the Free-Barrier Movies is obvious, but we need to be clear and not magnify its meaning. We also need to see the limitations of the Free-Barrier Movies in terms of achieving communicativity, and think about how to create more possibilities. |
