The current era is already the era of globalization.In particular,the proposal of China’s "the Belt and Road" policy has increased international exchanges.At the same time,English has become more and more important as an international language.Learning vocabulary is the basis of learning all language skills,and vocabulary runs through the whole process of English learning.No matter when learners are engaged in English listening and speaking activities,or reading,writing,translating and other activities,they need to master a certain amount of English vocabulary in order to make English activities go on.Therefore,mastering proper English vocabulary learning methods will improve the efficiency of English learning to a certain extent.Nowadays,junior high school students spend a lot of time learning English vocabulary,but the results are often not good.Therefore,students urgently need reasonable vocabulary learning strategies to improve the efficiency of vocabulary learning.Based on the current situation of junior high school English vocabulary teaching and the characteristics of junior high school English learning,this study applies vocabulary association model to junior high school English vocabulary teaching in Grade 8,aiming at verifying the following two questions:1.How does the application of vocabulary association model affect junior high school students’ vocabulary learning?2.What role does the application of vocabulary association model play in the formation of junior high school students’ awareness of vocabulary learning strategies?The author selected two classes in Grade 8 of the junior high school as the research objects.After testing,Class Four was finally determined as the experimental class while Class Seven was chosen to be the comparative one.The experimental class was trained in vocabulary association strategies for two months to compare with the control class which was taught with conventional vocabulary teaching methods.Through the comparison of the two selected subjects in the form of tests and interviews,the thesis explores the application effect of the in junior English vocabulary teaching.Based on the in-depth investigation and understanding of students’ vocabulary learning in their school,as well as the research on the textbooks used by students,this thesis organically combines the school conditions,students’ learning characteristics and levels,and English textbooks for Grade 8 according to the standards of vocabulary association test,designs a vocabulary association mode training mode suitable for junior high school students,and flexibly integrates vocabulary association mode into English noun teaching activities in the experimental class,so as to stimulate students’ interest in English learning and improve their ability to learn nouns through the application of association mode.The research draws the following conclusions: First,the author applies the word association model to daily teaching,helping junior high school students memorize words with association strategies by phonetic association,morphological association,semantic association and semantic field association,which improves students’ vocabulary learning efficiency and word memory.The enhancement of word memory ability also greatly promotes students’ overall English performance;Second,after the training of vocabulary association mode,students’ enthusiasm for English learning has been improved.Most students can consciously use vocabulary association strategies to remember words in the daily vocabulary learning process,which shows that the use of vocabulary association mode has really played a role in junior high school English vocabulary teaching.One of the key points of junior high school English teaching reform is to highlight students’ ability to communicate and use language,and students’ vocabulary plays a strong role in ensuring and promoting this aspect.However,as far as current English teaching is concerned,teachers’ vocabulary teaching methods are relatively simple and lack of interest,which makes vocabulary teaching level lag behind.Therefore,the training of vocabulary association strategy and its model in this study provide a real reference for junior high school English teachers in vocabulary learning strategy teaching,and provide new research ideas and materials for other researchers to further explore vocabulary learning theories and vocabulary learning strategies.It can also be regarded as a useful exploration for developing a new vocabulary teaching model.
