| Explicitation,as a strategy of resolving ambiguity, improving the cohesion and coherence of the source language text and adding linguistic and extra-linguistic information,is employed by translators to make the translation text much clearer and more explicit. This report aims to explore the application of explicitation strategies in EnglishChinese translation based on the translation of the first three chapters of The Happy Accidents by Jamie Beck. The selected chapters describe the life scenes and personal situations of the three heroines. There are a large number of environmental descriptions and character dialogues in the chapters, which contain a lot of culturalloaded words and specific culture content, causing difficulties in understanding and translation. The translator uses explicitation strategies to make the original information more clearly presented to readers. In this report,Klaudy’s explicitation classification is used as the analytical framework to identify and categorize the explicitation strategies in the translation.Through translation practice and case study, the translator summarizes the following translation methods in terms of the classification of explicitation strategies, including addition, supplement omitted contend, restructuring the sentences, specification and adding notes. The translator hopes that this translation report will provide a different perspective for relevant translation and a reference for subsequent translators in their translation process. At the same time, this translation report is only a reflection of literary translation by using explicitation strategies and there remains room for improvement in both the translation practice and the studies of explicitation for further work. |
