Abstract/Summary:
This study designed laboratory sentences with different prosodic boundaries.By extracting and analyzing the controlled acoustic parameters of Shantou dialect and Taishan dialect, this study discusses the hidden characteristics of those parameters and discovers the regularities which are presented by comparing with different prosodic boundaries, then makes a comparative analysis of those regularities between Shantou dialect and Taishan dialect. The main findings are as follows.First,to sum up,no matter what initial consonant behind the prosodic boundary are, whether aspirated or unaspirated occlusives or fricatives, the acoustic parameters, such as the simple vowel’s duration in front of the prosodic boundary 、 silent gap duration of the occlusives 、 pause distribution and pause duration, have shown same strong relativity with prosodic structure, which is the higher the prosodic hierarchy, the bigger the values of those parameters.Besides, the changing of vowel’s F1 and F2 are prominently influenced by prosodic boundaries, but less relevant to the consonants behind the prosodic boundaries. The result shows that F1 and F2 are both more standard right before the unaspirated occlusives in intonation word boundary. As for the Voice on Set duration of occlusives behind the prosodic boundaries in Shantou dialect and Taishan dialect, the study revealed same regularity: unaspirated occlusives’ VOT duration are shorter and shorter as the prosodic hierarchy are higher and higher, which is opposite to aspirated ones.Whichever the prosodic boundary is,the unaspirated occlusives’ VOT duration is always shorter than the aspirated ones.In the end,the vowels’ duration behind the prosodic boundaries are shortened by the prosodic structure in both Shantou Dialect and Taishan Dialect.By comparison, the fricative consonants behind the prosodic boundaries are lengthened to some extent.
