The Exploration Of Dialectics In Gadamer’s Hermeneutic

Hans-Georg Gadamer(1900-2002),a very important philosopher in the field of hermeneutics,is famous for his Philosophical Hermeneutics thinking around the world.The study of the relationship between Philosophical Hermeneutics and dialectics is an important direction in Hermeneutic studies,since Gadamer once made it clear that dialectics should be restored in hermeneutics.Precisely,it is the dialogism in the original sense of dialectics that should be restored.By reviewing the history of western philosophy,the dialogic nature of dialectics was originally related to the practice of human life,then under the impact of the soliloquy of reason,it was gradually evolved into a conceptual dialectics of pure thought as a game of declarative and abstract speculation.Meanwhile,Gadamer’s hermeneutics returns to the world of life and restores the dialogic nature of dialectics,which is a“questioning-answering” dialectics between different horizons.This spirit of dialectics,also called dialogism,as the most essential feature,runs through the whole Gadamer’s hermeneutics.It can be said that the problem of the relationship between Gadamer’s Hermeneutics and dialectics needs to be studied profoundly,because the dialectical thought contained in philosophical hermeneutics helps us to grasp the theoretical characteristics of philosophical hermeneutics precisely,it is wholesome for us to deepen the understanding of the basic theory of Philosophical Hermeneutics,enrich the development of Hermeneutics and dialectics,and promote the revival and development of practical philosophy.This thesis is mainly to explore the dialectical thought entailed in Gadamer’s Hermeneutics,aiming at deepening the understanding of philosophical hermeneutics.The first chapter offers a brief introduction of the background,significance,research status and ideas,research methods and innovations.The second chapter,as a core part of this thesis,explores the dialectical thinking in Gadamer’s hermeneutics in the aspect of basic theoretical views,including “the dialectic of the whole and part in the Hermeneutic Circle”,“the dialectic of the infinity and finiteness of the experience in the hermeneutic experience”,“the dialectic of the contradiction between the difference and the identity in the sense of effective-historical”,“the dialectic of the contradiction in the fusion of horizons”,as well as “the dialectic of the dialogue in the understanding of linguistic nature”.The third chapter starts from Gadamer’s philosophy of practice,exploring the application of the universal to the special dialectics,dialectics and philosophy of practice and other aspects of integration.From the theoretical analysis of the second and third chapters,the author finds that the basic viewpoints of philosophical hermeneutics contain abundant dialectical thoughts,which are mainly dialogic dialectics and contradictory dialectics,and the thoughts of understanding the basic viewpoints of Philosophical Hermeneutics,namely,not just from a certain aspect to understand,but to understand dialectically.The last chapter expounds the significance of dialectics in Gadamer’s Hermeneutics in the aspects of the ontology of understanding,the historical features of understanding,and the linguistic features of understanding.It is ended with the conclusion that dialectics can help us grasp the theoretical features of philosophical hermeneutics.Besides,it reveals the significance of dialogue dialectics for the continuation and revival of the development of practical philosophy from the issue of the lost era of practical reason in the scientific era,which has a profound educational function in the sense of practical philosophy,and is helpful to enlighten practical wisdom in practical activities.Gadamer’s hermeneutics contains the thought of practical philosophy.We can say that Gadamer Hermeneutics is the unity of theoretical philosophy and practical philosophy,which is actually the base of this paper owns to explore the dialectical thinking.The results show that Gadamer’s basic theory of hermeneutics entails a wealth of dialectical thinking,such as Plato’s dialectics of dialogue and Hegel’s dialectics of contradiction.Apart from that,it also gleams with the brilliance of Marxist dialectics.In Gadamer’s Hermeneutics,Plato’s dialectics of dialogue,Hegel’s dialectics of contradiction and Marxist dialectics are intermingled.In other words,the dialectics in Gadamer’s Hermeneutics has rich connotation,making the philosophical hermeneutics more systematic and profound.
