| This report is based on the author’s interpreting service for a business negotiation between a children entertainment company and a Russian company.This task lasted 62 minutes,during which the author was required to provide both English-to-Chinese and Chinese-to-English interpreting.Relying on feedback from both sides and the recording,the author evaluates his interpreting performance.The author thoroughly analyzes problems encountered,reasons behind problems,and coping tactics back then from transcription.This report can be divided into four chapters.Chapter 1 includes introduction to the negotiation,purpose of the meeting,features of the task,introduction to both speakers,and profile of the employed interpreter.The second chapter is the process description including pre-task description,process of the task,and post-task description.The pre-task description mainly composes of four parts,namely general understanding of the two companies,terminology preparation,communication with the client,and emergency plan.The process of the task concentrates on interpreting process.The posttask description also makes up of two parts: feedback of the both parties and selfreflection.Chapter 3 lists three main problems in this interpreting task,namely undesirable sound quality,fuzzy expressions,and redundancy.And corresponding solutions are raised to solve the three problems.Enquiry is the solution of information loss caused by undesirable sound quality;deverbalization deals with fuzzy expressions;reformulation copes with redundancy.This chapter is the central part of this report.The fourth chapter introduces the author’s major findings,limitations of this report,and suggestions for future reports.Since the online business negotiation has become a common phenomenon amid the background of COVID-19,so there will be more unexpected problems during the interpreting process.How to tackle those problems determines whether interpreters could provide better interpreting services for their clients.Therefore,based on this online interpreting practice,the author analyzes his problems in this business negotiation interpretation in this report.This report aims at firstly helping the author to identify his problems during the interpreting task so that he can perform better next time.The second goal is to provide some experience for later interpreters if they have similar problems. |
