Toni Morrison,an African-American woman writer, appeared in the literary world in the late 1960 s.Her major works include The Bluest Eye(1970),Beloved(1987),Jazz(1992),Paradise(1999),Home(2012)and so on.Morrison’s works are vivid and profound.Toni Morrison consciously connects the novel with the mission of national liberation, and vividly describes the living conditions of African-Americans with her pen.As a female writer, with her unique female perspective and experience, she closely links the process of African-American women’s self pursuit with the process of rebuilding African-American national consciousness, forming a development trend of mutual progress. The theme of African-American women in Morrison’s works has always been the top priority of researchers.Although some scholars have studied the growth and changes of African-American women in Morrison by using Post-colonial theory, trauma theory and spatial narrative analysis, there are few studies on the construction of female subjectivity of African-American women by using Post-colonial feminist theory. Therefore, this paper, taking Morrison’s trilogy as its research object, tries to use Post-colonial feminism to analyze the main female roles in the trilogy to explore the construction of female subjectivity, which highlights how Morrison is concerned about the living conditions of African-American women.Through the research and analysis of the construction methods of female subjectivity of the African-American protagonists in Morrison’s trilogy, the author obtains different construction methods of female subjectivity.Morrison describes that the heroine,Sethe, passively completes the construction of female subjectivity in Beloved.Sethe’s female subjectivity is constructed by passively accepting the help of the African-American community, daughter and sweetheart. In Jazz,it is argued that the heroine Violet has actively completed the construction of female subjectivity.Violet’s female subjectivity is constructed by seeking timely help from her husband’s lover’s aunt and completing the reconciliation with her husband. In Paradise, the heroine Consolata not only constructs her own subjectivity, but also helps other confused women complete their construction. The construction of female subjectivity is the most important way for African-American women to realize self-redemption.Women are required to have a sense of self-existence,and they want to ensure that their own strengths and abilities also play an integral role in creating the world.Based on the theoretical framework of Post-colonial feminism, this paper studies and analyzes the theme of women’s construction of female subjectivity in Morrison’s trilogy, and points out that African-American women who lose their identity under the dual oppression of race and gender can only respect their true self, deeply rooted in African traditional culture so as to realize the construction of female subjectivity.
