In recent years,numerous machine translation engines have been constantly updated,such as Baidu Translation,which is favored by language service providers for its high efficiency and low cost.Nevertheless,the quality of machine translation is still difficult to compare with that of human translation and cannot meet the high-quality requirements of users.Therefore,it is necessary to improve the quality of translation through post-translation editing.At present,the model of machine translation plus post-translation editing has been widely used.The text selected for this translation project is The Future of Warfare in 2030,a research report published by RAND Corporation in 2020.This is a military report,and the text type of the report belongs to information text,with strict wording and clear logic,which is suitable for machine translation plus post-translation editing mode(MTPE).In this translation practice,Baidu translation engine was used to pre-translate the text,and then post-translation editing was performed to solve the typical errors that occur in Baidu translation when dealing with the military text The Future of Warfare in 2030.Through the statistical analysis of machine translation error types on three levels:lexical,syntactic and logical,it was found that in this translation practice,a total of117 errors occurred in the machine-translated translations,with 65.8% of errors occurring at the lexical level,25.6% at the syntactic level,and 8.5% at the logical level.Further analysis revealed that at the lexical level,typical errors included:inaccurate translation of terms,wrong choice of word meaning,and inappropriate verb object collocation;at the syntactic level,typical errors included: wrong translation of passive voice,mixed long sentence patterns,and translation following the original word order;at the logical level,typical errors included: improper handling the parenthesis,unable to correctly judge the meaning and logical relationship of conjunctions.In the process of post-translation editing,different methods were adopted to deal with different types of machine translation errors.For example,consulting professional terminology websites was efficient to correct terminology translation errors;adjusting the word order and sentence order was useful to handle translation closely following the original text;looking up the dictionary,clarifying the different meanings of the conjunctions,and analyzing the logic of the context were helpful to translate the logical relationship of the conjunctions correctly.
