Zheng Douqing lived in the middle of the Chosun Dynasty, when neoconfucianism was in decline and practical thinking was on the rise, these two philosophies also influenced Zheng Douqing’s Chinese poetry to a certain extent. At that time, the court was constantly in conflict with internal parties, and the invasion of Japan and other external forces also brought great trauma to the court, and the country was severely depleted and the people were suffering.Zheng Douqing was a literary scholar with Confucianism and a deep family background, and his career was relatively smooth,so his distinguished family background and personal experience as a student and official made Zheng Douqing’s contacts very extensive. He was also an official. The circumstances of the times and the wide range of contacts undoubtedly contributed to Zheng Douqing’s Chinese poetry, and his poetic works also express both. His poems can be divided into four categories, namely, historical poems, travel poems, border poems, and poems of leisure.Zheng Douqing’s poems on history, while expressing his sentiments on the sadness of the past and the present, also serve as a warning to future generations. His numerous poems on journeys,on the other hand, include farewell poems, songs with friends, and mourning for those who have passed away.Among the farewell poems,Zheng Douqing’s open-mindedness and life experiences often made his farewell poems sweep away the sentimental tone of traditional farewell poems and instead add a sense of grandeur and generosity, overflowing with optimism and optimism.Among his poems of fellowship and travel, there are also works of harmony with friends, often involving banquets and drinks, which show that the Joseon poet revered poetry and wine.Zheng Douqing’s poems on the borderlands not only describe the hardships of the borderlands and the tragedy of war,but also express the emotions and thoughts of the soldiers in front of him,his family’s longing for him,and the suffering of his conscripted husband’s wife.In addition,Zheng Douqing also composed a certain number of poems of mourning for the dead, from which his feelings for the deceased can be seen, which is saddening and lamentable.A small number of his poems on leisure mainly express the leisurely state of mind of a literati and his desire for an idyllic life.In terms of imagery,he is particularly adept at using humanistic landscapes and natural scenes to express his feelings, such as historical monuments, old imperial cities, and natural imagery of mountains, rivers, flowers, and trees, both as an inheritance of traditional Chinese poetic meaning and as a reflection of his national aesthetic mentality.Zheng Douqing’s Chinese poems create a multi-dimensional aesthetic space, where time and space are intertwined and history and reality are reflected, thus enhancing the aesthetic quality of his Chinese poems. His Chinese poetry is closely related to the Chinese poetic thought he received,as he promoted the development of Chinese poetry in the Korean peninsula by advocating the Sutra and emphasizing the need for poetry to be based on intention. At the same time,he not only looked at Tang poetry and Tang poets in his poetic writings, but also imitated Tang poetry in the creation of Chinese poetry, which contributed to the spread of Tang poetic style in the Korean Peninsula. The poetry of Zheng Douqing has an important place in the history of ancient Korean Chinese poetry.
