In the 1980 s,the postcolonial literary theory was gradually linked to the study of translation practice and gave rise to postcolonial translation theory.Post-colonial translation theory does not only focus on the three basic points of translation “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance”,also on the political power struggle and image rebuilding among the countries with different cultures behind the target text, and advocates a resistance to cultural hegemony and cultural colonization. The source language text of this translation practice report is excerpted from the fourth chapter of the post-colonial literature The Yellow Emperor’s Cure by Indian writer Kunal Basu. The novel tells a story of Antonio who is a highly skilled Spanish surgeon at the end of the nineteenth century.Antonio travels alone to the historic eastern country China in search of an effective cure to save his father from a serious illness. The translation practice report first analyzes the main contents and linguistic features of The Yellow Emperor’s Cure, and then discusses twelve difficult translation examples and corresponding translation methods from two levels: lexis and syntax. The translation difficulties at the syntactic level mainly include elliptical sentences, attributive clauses and passive voices. At the level of lexis, the translator takes annotation, conversion of parts of speech and selection of word meanings. The selection of word meanings is based on the context of the source text.At the level of syntax, the translator adopts translation methods such as the amplification, the division and the active voice. The translator adopts corresponding translation methods for these difficulties. The translator adopts the translation method corresponding to the translation difficulties in order to ensure the coherence, accuracy, and readability of the target language text. The translator also adopts hybridization translation strategy to ensure the language reading habits of Chinese readers and enhance their cultural and national identity. The translation strategy of hybridization refers to the cooperation of different translation strategies, such as domestication and foreignization. The hybridization refers to the translator adopts the combination of domestication and foreignization during the translating process.Post-colonial translation theorists emphasize the use of translation strategies of foreignization and rewriting as well as the hybridization to achieve the intention of constructing cultural and national identities to resist Euro-American centrism, thus introducing heterogeneous cultural components into the target language text culture. The main contents of The Yellow Emperor’s Cure involve many Chinese cultural elements, and then the translator mainly adopts domestication to optimize the expression of Chinese cultural characteristics to meet the Chinese readers’ reading habits in the source text.Through the practice, the author has gained a clearer understanding of the characteristics and difficulties of post-colonial literature works, and a further understanding of post-colonial translation theory. In the cases analysis, the translator explains the influence of post-colonial translation theory on the target language text in the translation process. Therefore, there are two reflections: Firstly, the hybridization translation strategy which based on domestication as a core and supplemented by foreignization is the first choice, which aims to achieving the purpose of reshaping national and cultural identities in the translation practice of novels with Chinese characteristics under the guidance of post-colonial translation theory.Secondly, the language expressions formed the target text must conform to the reading habits of the readers in target text. Finally, two limitations are also listed behind to provide some references for the future translators who study the post-colonial novel.
