The spread of COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the travel industry. As different countries need to understand the changes in the industry from a global perspective, the translation of economic texts related to this industry now plays an important role.In the translation of research reports, the purpose is not only focused on code-level conversion, but also the improvement of the quality from a communicative perspective to ensure a successful communication. The relevance theory regards that translation is an activity for communication and also an ostensive-inferential process from the perspective of cognition. Therefore, this report took the excerpts of the Chinese translation of The Travel Industry Turned Upside Down and analyzed the associations in three levels, including lexical, syntactic and discourse, from the perspective of relevance theory.Since the source text contains a large number of compound words, economic terms and long sentences that do not meet the expectations of Chinese readers, the report selected typical examples for each level of translation and explored the relevance of the translation. From the process of translating the report into Chinese,it is clear that accurate word meanings, grammatical structures that fit the reading habits of the target readers and coherent discourse can better convey the informational and communicative intentions of the source author and ensure that the target readers can best relate to the original text with appropriate processing efforts to achieve good contextual effects. Therefore, the theory of associative translation has certain applicability to economic texts.
