This thesis takes the writing mode of Beasley’s Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present:A Short History as the research object.The writing of aesthetic history is very important for the development of aesthetics,because it is not only a record of the development of aesthetic thought,but also a reference for the emergence and continuation of aesthetics.As a pioneering aesthetician of analytical aesthetics in the1950 s,Monroe C.Beardsley ’s contribution is not only embodied in the construction of the development system of early analytical aesthetics and thus brought American aesthetics into the era of analytical aesthetics,but also in the compilation of Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present:A Short History.Because Beardsley ’s works on the history of aesthetics are characterized by(1)the possibility of theoretical reflection and construction and(2)the typicality of discourse practice,the author chooses to a study on the writing mode in Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present:A Short History by Monroe C.Beardsley,in order to provide a new paradigm and methodological thinking for the writing of the history of aesthetics.Analytical aesthetics is an aesthetic trend of thought that appeared in the 1930 s under the influence of analytical philosophy.It uses the research method of analytical philosophy to analyze the language in logic level and explain the meaning in expression from the perspective of linguistic philosophy.Beardsley is one of the most representative aestheticians of analytical aesthetics.His important aesthetic viewpoints include meta-criticism of aesthetics,aesthetic empirical theory,artistic self-discipline,intentional and sensory fallacies,etc.In 1966 he published Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present : A Short History by analyzing aesthetics "antiessentialism" "scientism" and "historicism",the influence of the arrangement of the structure adopted in the traditional linear structure,attach importance to it and the contemporary aesthetics,the writing features only focus on the aesthetic development of internal research,pay attention to logic analysis and conciseness of language.In Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present:A Short History,Beardsley,according to the style of general history,takes the historical time as the writing context outside and the aestheticians as the research clue inside,and tries to clear and restore the aesthetic views of the aestheticians in different periods from the perspective of logical analysis by adopting the method of scattershot perspective.He divided the development history of aesthetics into twelve chapters,from ancient Greek aesthetics to contemporary empiricism aesthetics,and took modern and contemporary aesthetics as the focus of discussion.The length of the book can reach half,and the writing of each school is relatively meticulous.However,the development of aesthetics from ancient times to before British empiricism only focuses on the grasp of the mainstream thoughts of The Times and the logical restoration of the viewpoints of typical figures.It can be seen that Beardsley inherited and innovated in the compilation of western aesthetic history.The writing mode of Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present : A Short History day follows the conventional mode of the western history of aesthetics,which adopts the traditional diachronic structure arrangement and attaches importance to the development trend of modern aesthetics.But at the same time,there is a new innovation--the research path of analytical aesthetics and the evolution of logical analysis methods.Thus,the unique writing mode of Beardsley ’s Aesthetics from Classical Greece to the Present:A Short History was formed.Aesthetics to the age of the true,the present analysis in the past,the analysis of the aesthetic style of aesthetic expression no longer popular,but than e,the pursuit of linguistic analysis,logical reduction,expressed a clear analysis of the aesthetic style extremely aesthetics writing pattern undoubtedly provides a new paradigm for the editing of aesthetics and may,is still worth writing reference and learning.
