A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Excerpts Of Unmanned Systems Roadmap 2007-2032

As the informative text,metaphorical expression serves as one of the crucial linguistic features of scientific text.Metaphor would improve the information density of the text on the one hand,and strengthen the objectivity of the language on the other.However,ideational grammatical metaphor changes the sentence structure of the text,resulting in relatively complicated logical relations,which would increase the difficulty of text reading and translation.Therefore,the ways to deal with ideational grammatical metaphors in scientific text during translation are of vital importance.The excerpts of Unmanned Systems Roadmap 2007-2032 are selected as the source text in this report.Guided by the theory of ideational grammatical metaphor,five translation strategies are proposed for the metaphor of transitivity,namely,transference from relational process to material process,transference from mental process to material process,transference from existential process to material process,transference from material process to relational process and transference from mental process to relational process.And five translation strategies are proposed for the metaphor of lexicality,namely transference from entity to process,transference from entity to quality,transference from quality to process,transference from quality to entity and transference from quality to circumstance.The translation strategies proposed in this paper can effectively solve the key problems in translation,which are also capable of enriching the application of ideational grammatical metaphor theory in the study of scientific text translation.
