With the continuous improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength,the academic community has gradually deepened its research on China’s national image.As a part of displaying China’s national image,urban image plays a pivotal role in international Chinese language education.However,currently,the academic research is mostly concentrated in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai,as well as in northern cities,with relatively few studies focusing on the southern region,and fewer studies on the urban image of Suzhou,Moreover,there problems of homogeneity and lag in teaching materials,and there is not much research on classroom teaching and extracurricular activities.Therefore,this article takes the embodiment of Suzhou’s urban image in textbooks and teaching as the main research object.Firstly,a questionnaire survey and interviews were conducted on the cognitive status of Suzhou’s urban image among Chinese language learners who came to Suzhou.It was found that the overall impression of Suzhou among learners was good,but there were still problems that needed to be solved in classroom learning and extracurricular activities;Then,statistical analysis was conducted on the types of Suzhou city image and attitude tendencies in "Performing Suzhou","Studying in China",and "New Practical Chinese Textbook",and the similarities and differences in their expression were summarized.It was found that the three textbooks tended to portray the image of Suzhou city in terms of daily life and scenic spots and historical sites,and there was a phenomenon of homogenization.Traditional elements and modern elements were insufficiently combined,and attitude tendencies were mostly positive and moderate;Then observe and count the specific situation of classroom teaching and extracurricular activities in Soochow University,and conduct a questionnaire survey on teachers’ cognition of the city image of Suzhou.The study found that teachers consciously integrate the city image of Suzhou into classroom teaching,and extracurricular activities are very rich,but some content lacks systematicness,there are few modern elements,teacher language is sometimes too difficult,and the connection with classroom teaching is not close enough;Finally,relevant improvement suggestions are proposed from the aspects of curriculum,teaching materials,teaching,teacher training,student learning,and media communication,and corresponding teaching designs are provided,with a view to providing reference for the teaching of Chinese city image in international Chinese language education. |
