| With the development of science and technology,much attention has been paid to the study of English for Science and Technology(EST)texts,conducting the comprehensive study on the stylistic features from the perspectives of vocabulary,sentences and discourse.As the carrier for scientific and technological information,EST texts have the characteristics of preciseness,objectivity,authenticity,and accuracy.The apposition is frequently used in the EST due to its forceful interpretation and explanation functions of the original constituent,achieving the goal of accuracy,standardization,and large information transmission,as well as realizing the characteristics of EST texts.Taking NASA’s Development of Next-generation Spacesuits as translation materials and based on previous findings of the translation strategies of apposition structure,the present report analyzes a large number of examples of apposition in the translated EST texts.From the lexical and syntactical levels,this report focuses on two categories of apposition structures that frequently appear in translated texts,that is,noun phrases and clauses.In addition,practical translation strategies such as linear translation,repetition,reorganization,and sentence transformation are proposed to guide the translation practice.The analysis is of benefit to the translation of apposition in EST texts. |
