Ethnographic Literature Research On The “Horse Award” Literary Works Of Hunan Province

In the 1990 s,under the influence of the creating ideological trend of the unique minority culture,Hunan literary tradition and the national ethnographic literature,Hunan minority writers produced a large number of ethnographic literature.By studying the literary works which have won the “Horse Award” in Hunan province,it has discovered that the following five books share evident ethnography characteristics.They are: Literature and Art Library of Hunan Army---Prose matrix,Peng Xueming Volume by Peng Xueming,Chasing Dreams---Poverty Alleviation Chronicle in West Hunan Province by Long Ningying,Discovering Riez by Zhang Xinping,Mountain Cang is just like the Sea by Xiang Bengui,and The Graceful Voice of Xiao by Xiao Renfu.In conclusion,the five books can be categorized as ethnographic literature.In terms of the content,the folk literary works,which have won the “Horse Award” in Hunan province,tend to pay attention to the culture of Western Hunan.This paper mainly discusses the characteristics in content of several “Horse Award” books from three aspects,namely,the material culture,institutional culture and spiritual culture.In these works,the writers paid close attention to the marginal areas of western Hunan,describing the local knowledge of the marginal areas and the living conditions of the local people.Moreover,writers tried to live in the local areas,and they did field research,collected literary documents and gathered cultural relics so as to make their obtained writing materials more realistic and objective.Most of the contents of such literary works are consistent with the objective and real things in real life.In the perspectives of writing techniques,writers are good at using specific writing techniques such as giving examples,underdrawing and listing numbers to describe the existing things more objective and authentic.Ethnographic literature has the value of spreading the colorful culture of Hunan,promoting the understanding of western Hunan,and enriching the writing paradigm of literature.As a result,this category of literary works directly cite a large number of historical documents to achieve the purpose of reflecting the reality,but on the other hand,due to the lack of the necessary fictional plots,imagination and emotion,these works inevitably break the balance between the historical authenticity and literary aesthetics.Consequently,most of the cultural writing of the works only display the superficial characteristics of the ethnic culture instead of reflecting the worldwide care beyond the ethnic groups,which highlights the imbalance between ethnicity and worldliness in literary works.
