| Daily life is the foundation of human existence, and it affords writers the chance to disclose the secrets of human nature and explore the possibilities of life. With the emergence of“post-70s" and "post-80s" writers in the new millennium, their novel composition is increasingly focused on personal and microscopic depictions of daily life, and they are dedicated to developing the aesthetics of daily life.Yongmei Huang focuses on the complicated and obscure daily life, uncovers the heterogeneity of their daily life through all kinds of trivial happenings, captures a heterogeneous expression of the times and enlightens their state of mind, reflecting the unique predicament of individuals in daily life and re-examining the relationship between the daily life of individuals and the history of the times. From the perspective of“day life",this paper employs Lefebvre’s daily life theory and consumer culture theory to evaluate the impact of consumer culture on daily life. The thesis investigates the intricate condition of urban living within the framework of consumer culture from four perspectives:the presentation of daily life space, the transformation of daily life with alienation themes, the resistance to daily life, and the temperament of Lingnan culture. The first chapter investigates the portrayal of Lingnan environment and its cultural characteristics in Yongmei Huang’s novels from the perspective of daily life space.Through the exploration of the relationship between human and urban space,we can see that Huang’s Guangzhou has shed its glitzy aura, and that the nostalgic space inscribed with the unique historical memory and cultural experience of Lingnan people, the daily leisure space that embodies citizens, and the marginal space where the underprivileged survive have been recorded in a heartfelt tone, thereby evoking a strong sentiment and vibrant atmosphere. The second chapter addresses the issues and challenges encountered by urbanites from the novel’s ontological standpoint, focusing on the subject of "alienation" in contemporary times.Alienation creates a unique landscape of life, from the material experience and desire to satisfy the body’s senses,to the psychological anxiety and physical pathology caused by the fracture of life, and the emotions built up by love turn into hollow energy fingers under the daily erosion, while the gentle veil of affection fades into mistrust, which all reveal the human existence under the influence of the disease of modern civilization. The third chapter analyzes the artistic aesthetics of Huang’s novels, which feature a cruel yet poetic narrative atmosphere, manifested in the use of poetic language rich in meaning to romanticize the text, focusing on the creation of mood, atmosphere, and lyrical tone, thereby forming a completely different spirit,a metaphysical transcendence, and endowing a sense of tenderness to the unsatisfactory life. The fourth chapter examines the particular manifestation of Lingnan culture in Huang’s novels within the context of the interaction between regional culture and literature. The subjects, characters, and artistic taste of Huang’s novels are influenced by Lingnan’s pragmatic style and leisure consciousness, therefore revealing the attitude and tranquil cultural outlook of the common people.the spirit of modern change influenced Huang’s mission to track social changes and care about reality.Huang’s sense of mission to record social developments and care about reality has been affected by the modern spirit of revolution. |
