| The Analects of Confucius is an important part of language teaching in secondary schools in China, and as a traditional Confucian classic, the Analects of Confucius also has an important place in the teaching of the"national language" in Japan. This paper focuses on the "secondary school" level, comparing the similarities and differences between the Japanese "national language curriculum" and the "language curriculum"in China, discovering the advantages of teaching the Analects in China, and at the same time learning from the practical implications of the Japanese teaching of the Analects in secondary schools. The aim is to expand teaching ideas, enhance the vision of education and teaching, and provide reference for the teaching of the Analects of Confucius in China. There are three levels of research in the subject curriculum:the curriculum level, the teaching material level and the teaching level. This article focuses on the latter two levels, reflecting the curriculum philosophy through the study of teaching materials and examining the state of teaching in both countries based on the teaching materials. The pedagogical level focuses specifically on the aims, content and strategies, while the evaluation of teaching and learning is omitted. The main part is divided into four chapters. The first chapter of this paper briefly describes the content of the textbooks selected for the secondary school level on the Analects of Confucius in China and Japan, provides an overview of the current situation and compares them;the second chapter outlines the teaching objectives and content of the Analects of Confucius at the secondary school level in China and Japan and summarizes and compares the similarities and differences, taking as reference, for example, the teaching examples of the secondary school level in the two countries;the third chapter compares the teaching strategies implemented in the teaching of the Analects of Confucius;the fourth chapter summarizes the insights from the comparative study of the teaching of the Analects in secondary schools in China and Japan, the experience of teaching the Analects in China, and what can be learnt from the teaching of the Analects in Japan. From the above study, which considers the effectiveness of teaching the Analects in both countries, the reasons for the differences in the teaching of the Analects in the two countries can be attributed to different educational philosophies, curriculum objectives, textbook development techniques and attitudes towards Confucianism. From this study it is also possible to draw out the strengths of the teaching of the Analects in both countries, with China’s teaching objectives focusing on the heritage of its own cultural classics, its teaching materials advocating the teaching of the entire book of the Analects, and the prevalence of ’thematic teaching’ at the teaching level. In Japan, the teaching of the Analects focuses on independent thinking and communication, the teaching materials present a wealth of clear language knowledge and learning activities, and a variety of innovative teaching methods such as practical situations and cognitive games are used in teaching. |
