Research On The Series "Ya Bin And Her Friends

Entering the new era,the overall creative ecology of Chinese dance has developed rapidly and is like a hundred flowers in bloom.In an increasingly diverse and open environment of dance creation,many professional dancers have embarked on the path of "independent choreographer" in order to seek more freedom of expression,continuing to write a colorful chapter of "new dance",enriching the landscape and style of Chinese contemporary dance.As an outstanding dancer trained by the Beijing Dance Academy,Yabin Wang not only won numerous awards in various dance competitions,but also became a "benchmark" of Chinese Classical Dance.In 2009,she founded Yabin Dance Studio and the art brand Yabin & Her Friends(hereinafter referred to as Friends),realizing a magnificent shift in identity from a dancer to a choreographer and artistic director.Friends series has gone through 14 years and 13 seasons since its first season was launched in 2009.It adheres to the concept of "telling China stories in universal languages and presenting world stories with Chinese elements",bringing together more than 100 artists from home and abroad,with footprints all over the world,and has won high recognition from audiences and industry insiders from different countries.Therefore,a comprehensive and systematic analysis of Yabin Wang’s artistic practice and the works of Friends series can provide useful reference for today’s dance creation and dancers’ cross-border practice.The first chapter of this article reviews Yabin Wang’s personal growth and the art brand Friends she founded.Firstly,we discuss Yabin Wang’s growth trajectory from four aspects,namely imprint of "Classical Dance",exploring of modern dance,cross-border attempts,and cultural background,and also the reasons why she became an excellent dancer,choreographer and artistic director;Then we analyze the original intention,developmental trajectory and achievements of Friends series.The second chapter explores the humanistic pursuit and methods of artistic creation of Friends series.We discuss the humanity-centered subject selection of Friends from three eternal propositions of culture,life,and love;Analyze the characterization of Friends series from three perspectives: the infusion of female consciousness,the comparison of contradictions and conflicts,and the inspiration of literary classics;Inquire into how Friends series construct works through solo,duet,and group dance that have narrative and structural functions;discuss how "theatrical elements" such as music,props,and films help in the expression of the theme together with dance movements while enriching the form of expression.The third chapter explores Friends’ cross-border practices in different dimensions and reveals its experience and inspiration.Firstly,from the perspective of dance styles,we analyze how Yabin Wang strides over the gap between Chinese Classical Dance and modern dance and why the concept of "expresion priority" leds the integration of various dance styles in Friends series;Secondly,from the perspective of identity transformation,we summarizes the reasons for Yabin Wang’s successful transition from a dancer to a choreographer,and introduces her experiences as a director,producer and other identities;Thirdly,from the perspective of crossing cultural barriers,we explore the transnational cooperation of the creation in Friends series,how to tell a China story of good quality through dance works,and the intercultural communication issue of Chinese dance reflected by Friends series.
