Confucius pioneered poetry education and put forward practical concepts of poetry education.According to the content of Confucius on The Book of Songs in The Analects and Confucius on Poetry,we can explore the connotation of Confucius’ concept of poetry education.First of all,Confucius’ view of poetry education originated from the Zhou Dynasty tradition of rites and music education, which constituted the basic spirit of Confucius’ poetry education.Secondly,Confucius’view of poetry education was influenced by the trend of composing and quoting poems in the Spring and Autumn period, and "Fushi Yanzhi" derived the political connotation of Confucius’poetry education. Finally, the core concept of Confucius’ poetry education "Xing Guan Qun Yuan"formed the integral aspect of Confucius’ poetry education thought.Since the 20th century, the study of ancient Chinese literary theory has become more and more abundant in the English-speaking world, and the poetry education of Confucius has attracted much attention as an important topic.Scholars in the English-speaking world interpret the poetry education of Confucius from an other’s perspective. On the whole, they understood the nature of Confucius’ view of poetry education as practical poetics, and discussed from three aspects, namely,The Book of Songs as Confucius’ textbook; The Book of Songs as a guide to political interaction;and Th e Book of Songs as a manual for moral cultivation. As a comprehensive discussion of the function of The Book of Songs by Confucius,"Xing Guan Qun Yuan" has also received the attention and elaboration of sinologists, who have explored its connotation from the translation of"Xing Guan Qun Yuan".At the same time,to explore the formation and influence of Confucius’poetic education, scholars from the English-speaking world have used "Poetry Expresses Aspirations" as the origin to explain the development and evolution of Confucius’ poetic education, and to analyze in depth the foundational role of Confucius in the moralizing interpretations of The Book of Songs. In the 20th century, scholars from the English-speaking world have adopted a cross-cultural perspective in interpreting Confucian poetic education from a Western interpretation;at the same time, some scholars start from the interdisciplinary perspective and seek cultural interpretations from philosophy,so as to have a deeper understanding of Confucius’ view of poetry education. The interpretations of Confucian poetics by scholars from the English-speaking world reflects the development path of Sinological studies on the one hand;on the other hand,it also provides a mirror for the modern transformation of ancient Chinese literary theory.
