The Imagery Of Foreign Civilizations In Du Fu’s Poetry

Since the opening of the Silk Road in the Han Dynasty,exchanges between China and foreign countries have become increasingly frequent,with a large number of foreign goods being transferred to the Central Plains of China in a steady stream.The Tang Dynasty’s policy of openness promoted cultural exchanges between China and abroad,resulting in a great deal of foreign style in Tang society.Literature was a reflection of social life,and a large number of Tang poetry were written about foreign civilizations,and Du Fu’s poetry were no exception.Du Fu’s poetry have been described as a ’history of poetry’,and reading them provides insight into the spread of foreign civilizations in the Tang Dynasty.The influence of the open social climate on the poet’s work,and Du Fu’s preference for writing about foreign civilizations.At present,there is not enough research on the foreign civilization in Du Fu’s poetry.This paper attempts to conduct a comprehensive search and count of the types and numbers of foreign civilizations written in Du Fu’s poetry,and to analyze their ideological connotations and artistic characteristics in depth,focusing on three types of foreign civilization imagery that Du Fu wrote about more frequently and with richer emotional connotations:Foreigners,Foreign Horses,Foreign Instruments.The introductory section describes the significance of the topic,the current status of research on the relationship between foreign civilization and culture in Du Fu’s poetry,and the object,objectives and methodology of the study.The main part consists of three chapters:The first chapter divides foreign civilizations into two categories:material types and cultural events,corresponding to the writing of foreign civilizations in Du Fu’s poetry,and analyses the conditions under which foreign civilizations entered Du Fu’s vision.The second chapter focuses on the emotional connotations of Du Fu’s writing on the Foreigners,the Foreign Horses and the Foreign Instruments.The Foreigners are categorized according to their status as borderland mongrels,Tang generals and frontier peoples,and Du Fu’s emotional attitudes towards the different types of Foreigners are discussed;the Foreign Horses in Du Fu’s writing have various symbolic meanings,such as expressing his own ideals and praising others;and the Foreign Instruments mainly expresses three types of emotions:the sound of war,the sound of homesickness and the sound of sending off friends.The third chapter summarizes the artistic characteristics of Du Fu’s writing on foreign civilizations,and compares them with the poems of the Tang poets Li Bai and Cen Shen.Du Fu’s poetry about foreign civilizations are characterized by a sense of resentment,the use of white descriptions to enhance the realism of the poems,the use of the word’I’ to enhance the authenticity of the poetry,the formation of a more regular collocation of verbs,and the clever use of rhetorical devices such as borrowing and metaphor to increase the artistic effect of the poetry.The remainder of the discussion deals with the influence of the context of the period and the poet’s personal factors on the creation of poetry.Overall,the foreign civilization expanded the subject matter and enriched the art of Du Fu’s poetry.The writing of foreign civilization in Du Fu’s poetry objectively reflected the foreign culture of the Tang dynasty,which seeped into the poetry and had a profound impact on Du Fu’s poetry,adding a different aesthetic style to it.
