The Apple Cart is a political play created by Bernard Shaw in 1929,and also the first work of his "political rhapsody" series. In 1953,Lao She,as a translator, created the Chinese version of the Apple Cart.In the Apple Cart, readers can intuitively feel the power struggle between the British cabinet and the king under the leadership of Bernard Shaw.Through the use of English language,Bernard Shaw satirized the darkness of the capitalist power system and created a distinctive image of characters. As a "master of language",Lao She successfully translated Shaw’s humor and satire into Chinese, vividly restored the British court, and enabled Chinese readers to appreciate foreign culture and the profound connotation of drama. This article will start with the translation of the Apple Cart, focus on the language use and style of the translation, combine the social and historical environment of the birth of the translation, and analyze the interaction between the New China literary field and Lao She as a translator and the original the Apple Cart,as well as the feelings and responsibilities for the New China when the British drama was accepted in such a special cultural context in the 1950s The translation attitude formed under the influence of his accumulated literary creation experience and other factors, how to influence Lao She’s specific operation of language, shows the final appearance of the translated version of the Apple Cart. The paper is divided into five parts. The introduction part introduces the origin of the topic, the theoretical background, the research object and methods,as well as the research summary of the related literature. The first chapter analyzes the opportunity that the Apple Cart can be introduced into the new China. As the first link of cultural acceptance, there are two factors that influence the selection of the Apple Cart.First, the degree of acceptance of Bernard Shaw in the 1950s,the change of positioning of Bernard Shaw from "socialist" to "Fabian",and the use of Bernard Shaw’s identity as a famous cultural person in the world, make his works have a foothold in heterogeneous culture;Secondly, the theme of the Apple Cart has a reference and guiding role for the translation and introduction of foreign literature in the 1950s,and has filled the gap in the standards of translation and introduction of literature in the capitalist world in the new Chinese literary field. The second chapter starts with the factors that influence Lao She’s attitude towards translation, and puts Lao She as an intermediary between the translation and the recipient. It analyzes the language use of the Apple Cart translation, including personal rewriting, semantic substitution,four-character word use and sentence structure change,to see how Lao She completes the translation through "cooperation".Through the analysis of Lao She’s domestication of the popularization and localization of words, the adoption of words with the color of the times, and the neglect of the western grammatical forms contained in the sentences, this paper discusses the specific language presentation of the translated version of the Apple Cart, and the impact of the new Chinese literary field on Lao She’s translation activities, and reflects his understanding of "value" in the 1950s.At the same time, compare with the use of translation language before the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and analyze Lao She’s attitude of "writing for the people" in the translation. The third chapter compares Lao She’s humorous and satirical style with George Bernard Shaw’s satirical style, returns the initiative to Lao She as a translator, starts from Lao She’s subjective cognition of literary language, abandons its position as an intermediary, and further analyzes the shaping of his Beijing style of language and the innovation of the new style of drama with the translator as the main body. And explore Lao She’s tendency to explore the new era of creative exploration through the translation of the Apple Cart, including the preservation of new languages and forms,as well as the application of satire and humor in drama creation.Analyzing how the shaping of ethnic language styles and the cultural capital gained in the old literary field influenced Lao She,the satirical and humorous style presented in the translated version of the Apple Cart was formed, and Lao She’s "innovative" translation attitude was reflected. The conclusion part summarizes the full text and explains that through the selective introduction and the translator’s treatment, the Apple Cart can appear in the eyes of Chinese readers with the features of popular and vivid, but without losing the characteristics of western drama. It also links the interaction between the new Chinese literary field and Lao She,showing Lao She’s translation attitude in the 1950s.
