A Study Of Wang Shijing’s Biography Of Lu Xun

From the publication of Wang Shijing’s first"Biography of Lu Xun" in 1948 to the final "Biography of Lu Xun" in 1981,the overwriting and rewriting of Lu Xun’s biography has accompanied most of the process of Wang Shijing’s research on Lu Xun.This thesis will focus on Wang Shijing’s Biography of Lu Xun,which is regarded as "the first complete biography of Lu Xun in China".First of all,it combs the current situation of Lu Xun’s biographical writing and research,with a view to making a certain supplement to modern Chinese biographical literature.On this basis,"return" to the historical scene to investigate why China’s first biography of Lu Xun came into being,what kind of image of Lu Xun the author constructed in concrete practice,and how it affected the writing of modern biography of Lu Xun.This paper examines the changes in Lu Xun’s research thought of Wang Shijing as the first generation of Lu Xun’s research scholar behind the overwriting and rewriting of Wang’s biography of Lu Xun,and analyzes the value and existing research problems of Wang Shijing’s research on Lu Xun.This article will structure the full text from the following aspects:The introduction part:combs the development of Lu Xun’s biography and the research of Lu Xun’s biography,and analyzes its development history and current situation.It introduces the background and research summary of the selected topic,gives an overall overview of the research of Lu Xun’s biography,and analyzes the relevant research of Wang Shijing’s biography of Lu Xun.Chapter 1:Analyze the necessity of the emergence of Wang Shijing’s Biography of Lu Xun as the first complete biography of Lu Xun in China,and how Wang Shijing met the inevitable requirements of the times with his accidental creative practice.From the perspective of the background of the times,the "brief and erroneous"biography of Lu Xun written by Japanese Yukio Oeda was circulated in China before that.Mao Dun once cried out that "the research work should include a correct and detailed biography of Lu Xun".Ding Yi,a modern literary historian,published the article "We need a biography of Lu Xun"in the Ta Kung Pao,urgently calling for the emergence of Lu Xun’s biography.From the author’s perspective,Wang Shijing organized a research group on Lu Xun at the Southwest United University,systematically read Lu Xun’s works and produced a profound understanding,laying a foundation for writing Lu Xun’s biography.It also analyzes the image of Lu Xun created and constructed in the specific writing practice,as well as the perspective focused on when writing Lu Xun’s biography.Then it analyzes the form used in Wang Shijing’s "Biography of Lu Xun".Wang Shijing used the historical path of "internal and external verification" from Wen Yiduo and Shen Congwen,the masters of the Southwest China Association,and devoted himself to the study of classical literature,which not only affected the language of his creation,but also quoted a large number of classical Chinese works created by Lu Xun in "Biography of Lu Xun".As Zhou Jianren said,Wang Shijing has read a lot of Lu Xun’s works and articles about Lu Xun published in almost all publications after his death.At the time of creation,Wang Shijing’s previous recollection articles,commentaries and other related contents about Lu Xun were integrated and absorbed into the creation of "Biography of Lu Xun".The structural pattern and style pattern embodied in the book laid the foundation for the later creation of Lu Xun’s biography.Chapter 2:Review the version change of Wang Shijing’s Biography of Lu Xun.The version change of Wang Shijing’s Biography of Lu Xun has gone through nearly 40 years.The rewriting and changes of these versions include:The Biography of Lu Xun(Xinzhi Bookstore,January 1948),the first complete biography of Lu Xun written by a Chinese scholar.According to Lu Xun’s life,the book is divided into 10 chapters,including "childhood,from one year old to thirteen years old","falling into poverty from a well-to-do family",and "thirteen to eighteen years old".At the beginning of the book is the "preface" of Jingsong(Xu Guangping),and at the end of the book is the "postscript" of Jianren(Zhou),with a total of 518 pages and nearly 400000 words.Lu Xun-His Life and Creation(China Youth Press,May 1958).The whole book is divided into six parts:"Introduction-the era of Lu Xun","Stand up from the Chinese people","Young patriots","Revolutionary democrats","From a close friend of the revolution to a proletarian soldier" and "Conclusion:How much can a person do for the motherland and the people".211 pages,123000 words.The Biography of Lu Xun(China Youth Publishing House,Beijing,October 1959,1st edition)is the first edition revised by Xinzhi Bookstore.The book is divided into four chapters:"youth","young patriots","revolutionary democrats" and "great communist fighters",followed by "concluding remarks:how much can a person do for the motherland and the people".Each chapter is divided into several sections,marked by Arabic ordinal number,without section name.There is no "preface" before the text and no "postscript" after the text,totaling 273 pages and 158000 words.Lu Xun-A Great Revolutionary,Thinker and Writer("Knowledge Series",Writer’s Publishing House,July 1962).The book is divided into 20 sections and 81 pages.Biography of Lu Xun(China Youth Publishing House,April 1981),the second revised edition.The chapter is the same as the first revision.At the end of "How much can a person do for the motherland and people",there is the words "revised from March to April 1977".278 pages in total.Biography of Lu Xun(English Version)(Foreign Language Press,April 1984).Written by Wang Shijing,translated by Zhang Peiji.These different versions of "Lu Xun Biography" record the changes of the times,reflect the psychological course of a generation of Lu Xun researchers,and become an important material for investigating the development and evolution of Chinese Lu Xun research and the changes and updates of the spiritual world of Lu Xun researchers.Examine the background of the change of the version,the change of the era background in the analysis process,and the "change" and "unchanged" in the author’s research process.Specifically,Wang Shijing’s "unchangeability" is mainly biography.Once the book was published,it triggered discussion and even caused a lot of controversy.Limited by various aspects,this book does have many disadvantages,which are also translated into the creation experience of Lu Xun’s biography after discovery and discussion.For example,after criticizing him,Cao Juren created the influential Commentary on Lu Xun.Secondly,it analyzes the influence and significance of the series of Lu Xun’s biographies written by Wang Shijing.Comment on Wang Shijing’s research achievements in Lu Xun’s biographical creation and thoughts,and the problems and limitations in Lu Xun’s research due to the limitations of the times and individuals.
