| Rock music has been developing in Chinese mainland for more than 40 years as a pioneering aesthetic and cultural practice.It arose in the late 1970 s,during the period of social transformation following Reform and Opening,and took over the music scene for nearly a decade in the early 1990 s,contributing to the prosperity of the cultural economy.From the millennium to the present,Chinese mainland Rock Music has been influenced by consumerism,mass culture,and globalization,resulting in three aesthetic paradoxes: rebellious and kitsch,sublimity and secularism,and literariness and entertaining.The Chinese aesthetic culture tradition’s cultural spirit of "harmony between people and things" and the sentiment of "unity of man and nature" balance the original pioneering spirit of Western rock music,so that the pioneering nature of rock music in Chinese mainland in the twenty-first century presents a unique Janus face.With a full humanitarian spirit and "poetic freedom",21st-century rock music in Chinese mainland has always adhered to the aesthetic ideal of truth,goodness,and beauty,focusing on social concerns,moral concerns,and life concerns.Based on the development and changes of rock music in Chinese mainland over the past forty years,this paper focuses on the historical context of social transformation in the 21 st century and aims to examine the special musical phenomenon and specific works of rock music in Chinese mainland from the perspective of aesthetic and cultural research and to understand the overall aesthetic characteristics and connotations of rock music in Chinese mainland in the 21 st century in the context of cultural tension.In addition,this paper also makes a general comparison with Western rock music to uncover cultural interests,reveal the causes,and form reflections.Chapter 1 focuses on the origins and development of rock music in Chinese mainland and clarifies its specific connotations as an aesthetic cultural practice;Chapter 2 examines specific works and musical phenomena of rock music in Chinese mainland in the 21 st century and grasps its aesthetic characteristics in terms of musical genres,themes,and lyrics;Chapter 3 further clarifies the thematic implications of rock music in Chinese mainland in the 21 st century in relation to specific works and discusses the attitudes to life and value pursuits presented by them.Chapter 4 examines the causes of the development and changes of Chinese rock music in the perspective of popular culture,and analyzes the factors of the transmutation of the aesthetic and cultural characteristics of Chinese rock music from three perspectives: social,cultural,and psychological;Chapter 5 reflects on the current situation and bottlenecks in the dissemination of rock music in the 21 st century in Chinese mainland,and analyzes the reasons for them,in an attempt to provide a basis for the dissemination and development of the spirit of Chinese rock music from the dimension of aesthetic and cultural research. |
