In the Web 2.0 era,new media is digital, integrated, interactive, and networked, and new media forms based on the Internet are proliferating. The birth of micro-documentaries is a new documentary film exploration and attempt in the new media environment. The instantaneous, interactive, and innovative features of micro-documentaries have inspired several works, including "The Imperial Palace 100","If National Treasures Could Talk",and"Breakfast in China" one of which has been serialized for four years and has become an evergreen tree in the field of micro-documentaries.According to Innes’ bias of communication theory, the appearance of micro-documentaries as a new medium inevitably brings with it a medium bias that can be explored,as well as the creation of a new bias when compared to traditional documentaries. As a result, based on the bias of communication theory of the media environment school, this paper investigates the media bias of the micro-documentary "Breakfast in China" in three dimensions:spatiotemporal bias, perceptual bias, and relational bias, and elaborates on the characteristics of the bias, its impact, and the development of communication strategies because of the bias implications. The thesis is divided into six chapters, with the first containing an overview of the study’s background and the theoretical basis of micro-documentaries and bias of communication,an analysis of the current research situation in the academic community, and an introduction to the study’s significance and research methodology. The first chapter provides an overview of the micro-documentary"Breakfast in China" and its communication features in the new media environment. The major communication characteristics include increased variety in production,a new kind of network integration, urbanization of communication material, instant communication effect, and diversification of interactive forms. The second chapter provides a detailed examination of the spatiotemporal bias of the micro-documentary "Breakfast of China".Both are still in a state of imbalance in the dimension of spatiotemporal bias due to the continuation of the spatiotemporal game, and the bias brings traces of communication and a large space of communication for the micro-documentary.The third chapter examines the micro-documentary "Breakfast in China" via the lens of perceptual bias. The emotional value of the micro-documentary is incorporated into the communication of scenes in the dimension of perceptual bias, and the micro-documentary has the bias qualities of blurring the boundary of individual backdrop and diversification scenes. The relational bias of the micro-documentary "Breakfast in China" is discussed in Chapter 4.The scales of technology and "people" are still uneven in the relational bias dimension, and the interactive platform, communication mode, and virtual socialization have introduced a mature relational bias to the micro-documentary.On this premise,micro-documentaries present several issues, including an imbalance of temporal and geographical bias, substantial commercialization, the victual’s domination over the real, and a lack of "human" orientation. As a result,Chapter 5 outlines the micro-documentary distribution countermeasures discovered while researching the biased characteristics of the micro-documentary "Breakfast in China".In the new media environment,micro-documentaries should focus on the balanced development of four groups of elements:time and space, real and virtual, platform and interaction, and people and technology,in order to bring more suitable dissemination channels and greater dissemination effects for micro-documentaries.The purpose of this study is to provide insights and countermeasures for the development of micro-documentaries in the new media environment by analyzing the communication bias of the micro-documentary "Breakfast in China" in the context of the media environment.
