Report On English-Chinese Simultaneous Interpretation For The Facebook Metaverse Conferenc

In 2020,human society reached the critical point of virtualization.Under the prevention and control of the corona-virus pandemic,the time of Internet access for the whole society increased dramatically.And human real life began to migrate to the virtual world on a large scale.The essence of metaverse is the process of virtualization and digitization of the real world,allowing different participants to enrich the meaning of metaverse existence in their own way.The material of this interpreting practice is selected from the speech of Mark Elliot Zuckerberg,the founder of Facebook,at the launch of the Facebook-Metaverse.Through the analysis and reflection of the interpreting practice,three problems are found encountered in this interpreting practice:omission and mistranslation,translationese and textual coherence.All the three problems are related to the quality of the interpretation.For the omissions and mistranslations in this interpreting practice,the strategies of word sense inference interpreting and numerical ambiguity interpreting are proposed.For the problem of translationese,conversion of passive sentence and four-character interpreting are proposed.To the problem of textual coherence,code-driven interpreting method and word order adjustment are applied.This report aims at providing reference for other interpreters engaged in the same type of interpreting practice.Shortcomings in this interpreting practice are also summarized and analyzed to provide more help for future interpreting work.
