A Study On The Northwest Spatial Narrative Of Rural Films In Chinese Mainland During The Seventeen Years

As an important geographical division of our country,the northwest area has always attracted the attention of film creators because of its unique geographical environment and human landscape.During the 17-year period,many directors recorded and explored the unique landforms,cultural customs and cultural connotations of Northwest China.At present,the academic research on the films of the Seventeen years period is mainly carried out from the perspectives of politics,history,aesthetics,modern western theory and criticism,and the film space theory advocates to pay attention to the spatial construction of films,spatial narrative research and other aspects.In this paper,a variety of research methods such as literature analysis,case study and interdisciplinary research are comprehensively used to explore the unique connotation of northwest spatial narrative,in order to enrich the theoretical research of film narrate,provide theoretical and practical reference for film creation,and provide useful thinking for the future development of ethnic film.There are five chapters in this paper.The first chapter focuses on some concepts,including narrative,film narratology,film space,film narrative space and space narrative,etc.,which provides theoretical basis for this study.Chapter two to chapter four is the main body of this paper,focusing on the analysis of its spatial narrative.The second chapter classifies the spatial categories of the northwest spatial narrative from three aspects,including geography,society and culture.It points out that the thick and warm yellow land,open and free grassland and cold and heartless desert are the prominent characteristics of the northwest geographical space.It is a unique feature of social space to express the change of old and new times,present the development of production and the awakening of female consciousness.Praising the history of the Red Revolution,showing farming and nomadic life and paying attention to religious belief culture are rich representations of cultural space.The third chapter divides the image into three categories:field,animal and folk custom,and then reveals the image function of the northwest space narrative.It points out that the field image can vividly and intuitively show the typical natural environment and unique human space in the northwest.Animal imagery refers to the masses at the bottom and symbolizes heroes with sheep and horses respectively.Folkloric imagery embellishes people’s material life and fills their social life.The fourth chapter explores the discourse construction of northwest space narrative from the three aspects of revolution,hero and labor,revealing that:in terms of revolutionary narrative discourse,the film mainly tells the rough history of revolutionary struggle and reproduces the hot era of revolutionary entrepreneurship;In the heroic narrative discourse,it is mainly manifested as the desexualization of hero characters and the weakening of erotic desire.In the narrative discourse of labor,focus on the labor model and the backward masses,both completed the achievement of self and self reconstruction in labor.Finally,the fifth chapter,from the macro grasp of the seventeen years of rural film northwest space narrative gains and losses,its image of the seventeen years of revolution and construction history,the aesthetic expression of ethnic culture and spirit and grasp of the socialist realism of the creation principle is worthy of the current film reference and learning.At the same time,we should also deeply reflect on the shortcomings of the film,such as applying the existing mode of narrative plot,creating the characters with little difference and presenting the fixed formula of performance style.Through in-depth study,it can be found that the films of this period jointly built the narrative and implication of the rural film "Northwest Space narrative" through the image setting,space category and discourse construction,and jointly woven and strengthened its narrative connotation.The "Northwest narrative space" in the rural films of the seventeen year period presents a unique cultural connotation and aesthetic charm,which is the unique regional and ethnic character of the rural films of the seventeen year period,and also an important factor that distinguishes it from other period films.
