The study of ethics, especially traditional Chinese philosophy and Western moral philosophy, contains many ideological contents related to honor and disgrace.Xunzi and Aristotle were in the same world axis period and the turbulent social background of the ancient era of China and the West, and on the basis of the ideas of their predecessors, they put forward the ideas of honor and disgrace related to "glory","disgrace","shame" and "virtue".Xunzi’s thought of honor and disgrace takes "righteousness" as the core and focuses on the study of the distinction between honor and disgrace and personality, while Aristotle’s thought of honor and disgrace takes "virtue" as the core and focuses on the study of the role of external honor, shame, and moral character.Xunzi and Aristotle’s research on the idea of honor and disgrace also has many similarities in seeking honor and avoiding disgrace, internal and external perspectives, moral education, environmental impact, etc.,and the research and topic extension of the two people’s ideas of honor and disgrace have a guiding role in the establishment of personality and the grasp of the sense of honor and disgrace. At the moment of the rapid development of global integration and informatization, the Internet is chaotic, people’s value orientation is diversified, and under the influence of money worship, utilitarianism and self-interested thinking, people do not distinguish between honor and disgrace in the face of fame and wealth, ignoring their inner righteousness and virtue.Through the comparative study of Xunzi and Aristotle’s ideas of honor and disgrace,we can further strengthen the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures, strengthen the concept of honor and disgrace of individual citizens, correctly handle the issues of righteousness and public and private issues, pursue spiritual honor, and emphasize the moral individual’s discernment of honor and disgrace and correct pursuit of honor and avoidance of humiliation. It is of great significance to promote the cultivation of civic morality and shape good moral norms for society.
