This paper focuses on the shift in attitudes towards homosexuality within the mainstream Protestant denominations in the United States.Through literature review and analysis,it explores the recent changes in attitudes towards homosexuality within these denominations.First, this paper explored the historical origins of Christianity attitudes toward homosexuality, elucidating the negative ones held by Christianity through biblical and theological traditions. Then,it analyzed the attitude change of American Protestant mainstream denominations on homosexuality issues and the generated reinterpretation of biblical scriptures.Next,it dug into the causes of this attitude change, including the social reality impacts of industrialization, war, and the loss of believers,as well as the theological influences of liberalism and historical criticism. Finally,by analyzing the uniquely American sense of mission and cultural expansion attributes, this paper proposed the relationship between promoting the protection of homosexual rights and its cultural hegemony in the context of globalization and pointed out the challenges and limitations faced by this cultural export. It also revealed the internal mechanisms and external influences of the attitude change on homosexuality among American mainstream Protestant denominations, providing a new perspective for understanding contemporary Protestant attitudes towards homosexuality and contemplating the interrelationship between cultural diffusion and hegemony.
