The human cultural spirit of our era is in a situation where prosperity and crisis coexist. While criticizing elitism culture,working-class culture and modern social culture,Storey saw the common living conditions of modern people, and even insight into the deep crisis hidden behind the prosperity of modern society. This article takes Storey’s "Introduction to Cultural Theory and Popular Culture" and "The Coupling of Memory and Desire" as the research objects, and systematically analyzes and interprets his modern social daily life, consumerism, economy, and politics, explaining the unique perspective of cultural hegemony theory. In Storey’s view, the essence of cultural hegemony is to achieve a win-win situation between the ruling class and the ruled class through cultural conscious acceptance and nonviolent control. It is a special power used to shape a ’universal consensus’ or win the approval of the public.Storey explored the crisis behind the prosperity of modern society from the perspective of cultural redemption. In the exploration of the path of redemption,on the one hand, the struggle and negotiation, reality and possibility,as well as their manifestations, characteristics, and difficulties in the theory of cultural hegemony are sorted out;On the other hand, overcoming the cultural diversity and lack of local dominant culture caused by the information explosion in modern society.Storey believes that if modern society wants to highlight the transcendence of human subject to resist the crisis behind prosperity,it must highlight the cultural dimension.Storey creatively proposed the utopian power construction and the cultural redemption transcendence path of local cultural power construction.
