As a literary master of a generation,Sun Li is famous for his novels.From the early stages of the War of Resistance Against Japan,there were articles in the academic community that evaluated and introduced Sun Li’s works.Throughout various periods after the founding of the People’s Republic of China,research on Sun Li never ceased,and the research scope showed a trend of broadening.However,these studies did not pay enough attention to Sun Li’s identity as a literary critic.In fact,Sun Li has rich writings in literary criticism,and these theoretical concepts have their inherent systematicity and logicality,especially his novel theory,which has unique viewpoints and forms its own system.Therefore,by studying Sun Li’s views on novels,we can gain a deeper understanding of Sun Li’s novel ideas,explore their connotations and values,and improve the comprehensiveness and profundity of Sun Li’s research.This article mainly studies the reasons for the formation of Sun Li’s novel view,including his views on no vel themes,characters,and functions,as well as his views on novel structure,language,style,and the value of his novel view.The main body is divided into the following four chapters:The first chapter mainly analyzes the reasons for the formation of Sun Li’s concept of novels,exploring four dimensions:the influence of native factors such as hometown,childhood,personality and temperament,the accumulation of aesthetic experience in reading,painting,and opera,the influence of multiple cultures such as folk culture,traditional culture,May Fourth New Culture,and foreign culture,and the guidance of revolutionary eras such as the Northern Expedition,Anti Japanese War,and Liberation War.The second chapter mainly studies Sun Li’s views on the theme,characters,and functions of novels.Sun Li proposed theoretical viewpoints on what content should be written in novels,what kind of character images should be created,and what the main functions are.Sun Li proposed unique and contemporary characteristics.In terms of the theme of novels,Sun Li believes that novels should be selected based on the criteria of "truth,beauty,and goodness",selecting new realities,new themes,and new themes that are closely related to the masses in the tide of the times,and showcasing the grand themes of social life in implicit daily narratives.In terms of the character perspective of the novel,Sun Li distinguished the difference between "advanced models" and "successful models",pointing out that the author should use a real person who can serve as the backbone of the description as a model,focusing on creating new models for the new era.In terms of the functional perspective of novels,Sun Li not only affirms the instrumental value of novels in terms of political and educational functions,but also emphasizes that novels,as an artistic form,must always maintain their own aesthetic characteristics and improve society in a beautiful form.The third chapter mainly studies Sun Li’s views on the structure,language,and style of novels.Sun Li believes that whether it is the structure,language,or style of novels,they are not only a matter of form,but also closely related to the content.In terms of the structural view of novels,Sun Li believes that novels must follow the internal logic of real life,set things according to people,and create emotions based on the situation.He points out that a"good structure" should be both natural and cautious.In terms of the language perspective of novels,Sun Li distinguished the difference between "good language" and "bad language",and balanced the relationship between the creative requirements of the popularization of revolutionary literature and the author’s own aesthetic pursuit.He pointed out that "good language" should be both rich and pure,but also humorous and elegant.In terms of the style view of novels,Sun Li transcends the traditional "style is human" theory and emphasizes the important influence of the author’s "creative intention",emphasizing the pursuit of "virtue"in novels.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the value of Sun Li’s novel view.Sun Li’s contribution to the novel view is mainly reflected in three aspects:firstly,between literature and politics,by introducing the medium of life,the contradiction and opposition between the political instrumentality and literary aesthetics of novels are reconciled;Secondly,starting from humanitarianism and adopting an ethical perspective,the political discourse and personal discourse in the novel can be mutually compatible;The third is the transformation of the plot structure(dramatic structure)of the novel to the situational structure.In other words,the transformation of the dramatic nature of the novel to the poetic nature provides a new writing aesthetic paradigm for the novel,and explores the potential poetic value of the novel.
