| The association between opera characters and ceramic decorative art is ancient,as early as the Song and Yuan dynasties when opera characters appeared on porcelain pillows from Cizhou kilns,as ceramic art has evolved since then,the range of decorative techniques and visual aspects available has become increasingly diverse and many excellent works have emerged.In order to continue the creation of opera characters in the field of ceramic decorative art,it is necessary to study the existing ceramic works decorated with opera characters.This paper discusses the reproduction and application of opera characters in ceramic decorative art,taking into account both ancient and modern ceramic works as well as one’s own creative explorations.Firstly,the visual language of opera characters that can be used for creation is explored,based on an examination of the emergence and development of opera characters in the field of art.This is followed by a discussion and analysis of ceramic works decorated with stories of opera characters and opera character patterns,which leads to three visual forms for the reproduction of opera characters in ceramic decorative art,namely figurative,imaginative and abstract forms.Finally,the general principles for the reproduction of opera characters in ceramic decorative art are summarised,namely,following the artistic characteristics of opera characters,adopting appropriate visual design methods and combining appropriate ceramic decorative techniques,and using these to guide creation.The series "All Characters" is the practical part of this paper,a creation that applies the inspiration gained from the theoretical research to practice.The series is based on experiments with the visual language associated with various opera characters,which are expressed through the underglaze painting process and corresponding design methods.The aim is to enrich the possibilities for the reproduction of opera characters in ceramic decorative art and to provide some new ideas for the future creation of opera characters. |
