Vilhelm Hammershoi Art Research And Reference

Vilhelm Hammersh(?)i was a Danish painter in the 19 th century during an active period of impressionism and modernism.His works adhere to the traditional form of painting and combine with the artistic spirit of northern Europe,forming a unique painting language.This paper takes Hammersh(?)i oil painting as the research object,starts with the painter’s historical background and personal experience,introduces the background of Hamosuy,and compares it with Vermeer,Hoch,Rembrandt and Whistler at the same period.In the analysis of painting language,his painting themes are divided into three categories: figure painting showing family portraits and self-portraits,interior painting showing room with back view and static space,and landscape painting showing natural scenery and urban architecture.Then,it focuses on the detailed analysis and elaboration of the interior painting from the aspects of the picture composition form of point,line and plane,the application of color and brush strokes,as well as the exploration of light and space.Finally,I applied the theoretical research results into my own creative practice.In the early exploration,I selected painting elements such as the composition form and color of the artist’s picture according to the needs of the picture,and then I created five graduation works of "Quiet Room" series.With the "quiet" of the space as the theme,I thought about the relationship between characters and space in the picture.In the reference constantly temper their own painting language.
