A Report On The Translation Of Scientific Texts On COVID-19

The translator got an internship in China Daily website from July to October in 2021.The translated materials amount to more than 36,000 words.The translated materials,consisting of ten articles focusing on COVID-19 from Scientific American,amount to more than 36,000 words.The translator then applies the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation"(CEA)framework proposed by Professor Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing to analyze the translation cases.Moreover,the translator attempts to explore the feasibility of the CEA framework on scientific texts.The present report analyzes the first and second versions of translation,identifies the typical problems and then proposes some possible solutions to the problems.The translator also reflects on the process and attempts to get some experience and draw some lessons about the translation process.The translator also reflects on the process and attempts to get some experience and draw some lessons about the translation process.This report utilizes the CEA Framework put forward by Professor Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing from Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts in Chinese-English Translation.The translator analyzes a myriad of examples to figure out how to solve problems in comprehension,expression and adaptation in the process of translation.The Comprehension part focuses on words and phrases,sentences and discourse;the Expression part introduces the translation of terminology,sentence structure adjustment and cohesion&coherence;the Adaptation part probes into how to use idioms,amplification,omission and other flexible adjustment to improve the translation.The report is divided into four chapters:The first chapter introduces the translation task,including the translation background,material selection and the translation process.The second chapter elaborates on the CEA analytical framework and-relevant theories.The third chapter is the case analysis from three perspectives:comprehension,expression and adaptation.This part makes a comparison and contrast between the first attempt and the second attempt.The fourth chapter makes a summary of the whole translation process and focuses on the findings and implications.
