A Study Of The Expressive Characteristics Of Ceramic Flower Vessels In Song Painting

In the long history of art in China,the art of painting and ceramics of the Song dynasty is an insurmountable peak for future generations.The ceramic flower vessels in Song painting are not only a product of the prosperous development of painting,flower arrangement and ceramic art in the Song dynasty,but also a concrete expression of the interpenetration and fusion of various arts.The richness of the style is reflected in a wide range of Song painting types,including figure painting,flower and bird painting,and boundary painting,and has its own unique pictorial function and symbolic significance in the picture of Song painting.Its existence not only demonstrates the Song people’s conception of creation and the innovation of porcelain-making techniques,but also illustrates the Song people’s lifestyle of elegance and common decency.In this paper,we have studied the distribution of ceramic flower vessels in Song painting through the collection of documentary and photographic material,as well as a longitudinal comparison with flower vessels from other dynasties.Firstly,through a background overview of the social context of the introduction of vases and flowers into painting,the development of Song painting and the stage of development of the art of flower arrangement,the image of ceramic flower vessels in Song painting is introduced.The paper then further analyses the pictorial function of ceramic floral vessels in Song painting,in terms of both form and content,and the symbolism of different scenes,identities and Song aesthetics;finally,it summarises the influence of Song ceramic floral vessels on modern ceramic floral vessels,in terms of both form and aesthetics.The aim of this paper is to clarify the specifics of the ceramic flower vessels found in the surviving Song paintings,and to examine in depth the symbolic significance of the ceramic flower vessels of the period in different scenes of life,to different figurative identities and to the aesthetics of the Song people.It is intended to interpret Song painting from a multi-artistic perspective,to explain the specific function that ceramic flower vessels assumed in the Song people’s eyes in relation to images of floral events,and to further restore the Song people’s way of life and cultural philosophy.
