In recent years, with the growing popularity of online literature, the winning works of Mao Dun Literature Prize have not received enough attention. In order to promote the prosperity of Chinese socialist literature, the translation and propaganda of Mao Dun Literature Awards works can not only attract more domestic literature lovers but also greatly promote the process of "going out" of Chinese culture. The source text of this translation practice is excerpted from The Story of Pulling the Wind, whose author is Mr.Xu Huaizhong. As the award-winning work of the 10th Mao Dun Literature Awards,The Story of Pulling the Wind is a peak of Chinese military literature. The translation of this work can enable more foreign readers to understand Chinese history and feel the diversity of Chinese literature themes. This report is guided by Hans Vermeer’s Skopos Theory.According to the three rules of Skopos theory, the analysis of specific cases is carried out from three levels of vocabulary, sentence and rhetoric. In this report, when translating literary works, the translator has two main tasks:conveying the meaning and thoughts to the target readers and preserving the characteristics of the source culture. The translator’s subjectivity and the purpose of translation play a decisive role in translation. In terms of lexical level, annotation, free translation and conversion are used to translate words such as nicknames,culture-loaded words, and onomatopoeic words that appear in the source text.Taking into account the differences between the two languages and cultures, the author chooses to focus on achieving the communicative purpose of the translation and try to restore the pragmatic meaning of the words. In terms of syntactical level, addition, combination, and omission are employed to translate sentences such as elliptical sentences,multi-verb long sentences and parallel structures that appear in the source text.Considering the difference in the grammatical structure of the two languages, the author chooses to adjust the sentence structure on the basis of restoring the information of the source text.In this way,the translated text will be more fluent and in line with the taste of the target language readers. In terms of rhetorical level, literal translation, conversion and free translation are adopted to translate the rhetorical devices like metaphor and irony that appear in the source text. The author chooses to preserve the rhetorical style of the source text as much as possible in order to achieve the transmission of textual message and spread Chinese culture.
